JUSTIN WHITMORE is a 6’6 SF, PF – Sophomore at Naaman Forest High School, who plays both inside and outside. When asked what makes this season special, Whitmore excitedly says “It’s my first year playing varsity”.
We asked Justin what sets him aside from others playing the same position. “Being able to do more than just post up and make layups”, was his reply. When it comes to his work ethics, he makes it a point to get in 500 shots every time he gets in the gym, including stretching every day. His driving factor on the court is to go 100% even if he is not scoring.
He believes the area of his game that has improved the most is his IQ and ball handling. Whitmore admits that there is room for improvement with his handles, to the point where he is dribbling the ball and running the offense. The sophomore says his jumper has improved tremendously. The most challenging part of basketball for the rising sophomore is finding the right team. “I’ve been on teams with good friends, but that didn’t really help me improve. I am always finding something to get better at”, Whitmore said.
When relating basketball to everyday life, Justin says he tries not to overthink the situation. He uses this same measure when asked how he deals with pressure, he simply states he does not panic and does not overthink the situation.
On the topic of recruitment, the sophomore explains it this way. “My recruitment is decent for only playing AAU for 2 years and coming off an injury”. “I would love to play at the next level and be the reason why young kids want to play basketball”.
When asked what is one thing you would like college coaches to know about you, without hesitation, he expressed that he will do whatever it takes to reach the next level and will do everything the coaches say with 110% effort. Once in college, Justin wants to major in chemistry and geography.
In watching Whitmore play, it is evident that he is a good spot-up shooter with a soft release. Inside he has very good footwork and length in order to make moves around guys who are bigger and/ or stronger. Defensively he is very good around the rim as he averaged more than 2 blocks per game and affected many others.
We look forward to Justin’s high school path and wish him continued blessings.
