Initially, I jokingly thought, “the Hopson Fieldhouse may need to adapt Reliant Stadium’s retractable roofing structure,” because of all of the athleticism that would be on the floor. And this match up certainly lived up to expectations.
Madison High School vs Shadow Creek High School Game Summary
Typically with big match ups, the 1st quarter is kind of a “feeling out” period where players try to get rid of the nerves before settling down. This was not the case for Shadow Creek. They came out firing on all cylinders led largely by (2021) RAMON WALKER, who exploded for 14 points in the 1st frame. However, Madison was somewhat able to counter the Shadow Creek attack by getting 8 points from (2021) BRIAN MYLES. Subsequently, Shadow Creek was up only 9 at the end of a period where if felt like they were up by a larger margin.
END OF THE 1ST QUARTER:
SHADOW CREEK SHARKS – 23
MADISON MARLINS – 14
Things slowed down in the 2nd quarter when Shadow Creek’s defense began to flex it’s muscles. The Sharks held Madison to only 8 points total in the period. So even though Shadow Creek did not have a quarter as explosive as the 1st, they were still able to stretch their lead.
HALFTIME:
SHADOW CREEK SHARKS – 40
MADISON MARLINS – 22
The Marlins came out of halftime with a lot more aggression on both sides of the ball. They began forcing turnovers with their press, and presented themselves with more opportunities at the rim. Their aggressiveness also resulted in more trips to the free throw line, in which they attempted 12 free throws in the quarter. Spearheaded by (2020) JACOBY BROWN’S 8 points in the quarter, Madison was able to get back within striking distance.
END OF THE 3RD QUARTER:
SHADOW CREEK SHARKS – 55
MADISON MARLINS – 42
In the 4th quarter, the stars of Shadow Creek were able hold Madison off from a comeback. (2021) WILL YOUNG was a wizard with the ball and got to the rim seemingly at will (no pun intended.) RAMON WALKER continued to make plays for himself and others. And (2022) SHAWN JONES displayed why many people in the Houston area considers him one of the most athletic players in his class. These three accounted for all but four of the Shadow Creek’s 20 point in the closing quarter.
FINAL:
SHADOW CREEK SHARKS – 75
MADISON MARLINS – 61
TOP SCORERS:
Shadow Creek: Ramon Walker Ramon Walker 6'6" | SF Shadow Creek | 2021 State #132 Nation TX – 28 points, Will Young – 19 points, Shawn Jones – 14 points
Madison: Brian Myles – 22 points, Jacoby Brown – 21 points, Adam Kanafani – 10 points
2020 UNSIGNED PROSPECTS
Tim Moore Tim Moore 6'6" | PF Houston Madison | 2020 State TX Jr. | Madison High School | 6’6 F/G – Although Tim did not have a monster game like he typically does, he was still able to effect the game in multiple ways. He rebounded well, and protected the rim all night long. Regardless, he is still a prospect worth any college program’s attention. He runs the floor well, able to stretch out and make perimeter shots and his athleticism is absolutely next level.
Jacoby Brown | Madison High School | 6’1 PG – Brown was able to get where ever he wanted on the floor. His attacks in the paint were precise and his aggression resulted in him going to the free throw line, a game high, 11 times. Jacoby does a great job of running a team and getting teammates in favorable positions. He’s capable of knocking down the three and is extremely elusive with the ball in his hands.
