Sometimes freshmen are able to step in right away and make a big impact. Older players take on a bigger role. Here’s a few players I’ve seen this year from the CIF Southern Section Gold Coast League who look poised to continue their upward trajectory.
1. Amari Bailey Amari Bailey 6'4" | SF Sierra Canyon | 2022 State #2 Nation CA-S – Sierra Canyon 2022
A year ago, Bailey was an instrumental player as a freshman for a Sierra Canyon team that won the state championship. This season, he continued his upward climb as one of the top players in his class. He is a shooting guard who can play some point guard at times. He’s comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays for others. Good defensive player on the wings, took on some tough defensive assignments this season.
2. Isaiah Brewington – Campbell Hall 2023
For a freshman, Brewington had advanced skill as a big man in the paint. He has a knack for rebounding and he boxes out properly, something not always seen in older players. He times his rebounds well; he’s a strong plus on the offensive glass when it comes to second shot opportunities. He’s in the mold of a true big man and post player. Poised to have a big sophomore season.
3. Brendan Terry Brendan Terry 6'6" | PF Crossroads | 2021 State CA-S – Crossroads 2021
Terry took a big leap in his junior season. He stepped up as a leader for the Roadrunners on the court. He’s a very athletic player with a versatile skill-set. He’s plays with aggression around the rim, he’s looking to finish with authority. He’s active on the glass; solid rebounder. He has all the tools be a lockdown defender on the wing. Can handle the ball and can shoot from three-point range.
4. Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'5" | SF Brentwood | 2022 CA-S – Brentwood 2022
Moore is one of the top rising prospects of his class. He’s close to being an automatic double-double. He’s relentless on the glass and he has a knack for scoring around the rim. He has an improving jump-shot that should get better in the coming years. He is a versatile defensive player; he can cover wings on the perimeter and switch to covering a big in the paint. Big year coming up.
5. Dylan Andrews Dylan Andrews 6'3" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #23 Nation AZ – Windward 2022
Andrews has steadily risen as one of the top guards in his class. He can play both shooting guard and point guard. He’s comfortable with the ball in his hands running the team offense. He’s a solid perimeter scorer; he can attack the rim with ease or he can step out and shoot jumpers. Can create his own shot on the perimeter; he’s becoming a strong three-point shooter.
