Continue ReadingWith all the happenings right now across the globe with the Coronavirus pandemic, we hoop heads are getting robbed of our most coveted time of the year “March Madness.” However, this past weekend we were able to get some basketball as the Elite from the state of Alabama traveled to face the best Mississippi has to offer in the 30th Annual Alabama vs. Mississippi All-Star Basketball Game.
The game was held in Clinton, MS at the AE Wood Coliseum in front of a select crowd due to the current pandemic. Despite the lack of normal crowd energy the game was played at a very high level as guys took advantage of their final opportunity to play in an official high school game.
The Alabama all-stars were able to blowout Mississippi 118-97 to claim their second consecutive all-star game victory. Here is a list of top performers that helped Alabama secure bragging rights to who has the best ballers.
Antwan Burnett Antwan Burnett 6'5" | SG Sindey Lanier | 2020 State #179 Nation AL , 6’5 SG, Sidney Lanier: The games MVP for the Alabama squad “AB” displayed why he is considered one of the 2 best players in the state in this class. He finished the game with leading all scorers with 25 points on 11 for 19 shooting (including 2 from distance) and 10 rebounds. He displayed his unique ability to score the basketball from all three levels and dominate his position around the basket. Whoever is lucky enough to ink this unsigned prospect will be getting a player who helps your program from day 1.
Colby Jones Colby Jones 6'4" | SG Mountain Brook | 2020 State #122 Nation AL , 6’5 SG, Mountain Brook: Another big, physical, and skilled guard that has the ability to thrive around the basket. He contributed with a double-double adding 12 points and 12 rebounds with a host of winning plays. The Xavier signee showed why he has long been considered a high major talent since his uber successful run with the Alabama Fusion on last year’s EYBL circuit. Look for him to make an immediate impact for Coach Travis Steele and the Musketeers.
Zondrick Garrett Zondrick Garrett 6'7" | PF Oxford | 2020 State AL , 6’7 PF, Oxford: The long and athletic tweener can play both inside and outside showing these traits throughout the entire game. He was his always efficient self going 5-7 from the floor 2-2 from the arch and 5-5 from the free-throw line totaling 17 points on the night. His ability to guard multiple positions inside and out makes him a valuable asset heading to Mobile this fall to play for the Jaguars of South Alabama.
Kameron Woods Kameron Woods 5'11" | PG Pinson Valley | 2020 State AL , 5’11 PG, Pinson Valley: Kam did what Kam does, control pace and stretch the defense. He has never been one to shoot a high percentage from the floor however his always locked, loaded and willing to take and make big shots. With one of the more storied careers in Alabama High School Basketball history, Kam has played in and won many big-time games in his tenure. Also unsigned at this point look for him to play a big role at any level he decides to play.
De’Marquiese Miles De’Marquiese Miles 6'1" | PG Lee (Montgomery) | 2020 State AL , 6’1 PG, Lee (Montgomery): The super fast guard had that speed on total display during this exhibition contest. His ability to get from baseline to baseline on a dribble and under control is a skill that can’t be taught. He was a perfect 4-4 from the floor and 1-1 from distance finishing with 9 points and giving a perfect night in his final high school game. “Duke” recently de-committed from the University of North Alabama thus opening up his recruitment. Look for him to make a decision on where he will play next season in the near future.
Austin Harvell Austin Harvell 6'6" | SF East Limestone | 2020 State #388 Nation AL , 6’6 SF, East Limestone: His body is ready today for the Division 1 level and could be an asset to a program right away. His athletic ability and motor are definitely his most valuable assets however, he is an improved outside shooter and perimeter defender and this was on full display as he guarded just about every position on the floor. He went 4-6 from the floor knocking down both of his three-point and free throw attempts. He is also still unsigned and we hope to have his decision soon on where he will continue his playing career.
