South Dakota Playoff Central – Class B
The South Dakota State Tournament has been delayed but we still have some players and teams to celebrated from the Class B level. Playoff Central jumps in as we wait, and hope, that the games will be played at some point down the line.
The Big Stage. Canistota over Arlington 59-58. With a few seconds left on the clock Canistota senior Trey Ortman heavily contested a baseline jumper forcing a lower percentage shot to miss. Ortman then tapped the ball out to the arc where Canistota collected the ball and won a spot in the state tournament. Game winning plays made by a winner. Trey also scored three times (two makes at the arc) while junior Tryce Ortman led the team with 21 points in the wing.
Upset City. Faith Defeats Marty 81-76. Both teams entered the game at 19-3 but Marty was the favorite based on their 6 seed. The Faith froncourt has continually beat teams up in the paint and once again Harland Groves played big while 6-foot-7 Jade Mortenson and 6-5 Tyson Shelby provided problems.
Right on Schedule. Kalen Garry. DeSMet defeated Colman-Egan by 21 led by the 25 points on 10 of 19 shooting from 6-foot-2 sophomore guard Kalen Garry. Kalen scored on 10 of 19 shot attempts hitting a couple threes and collecting six boards leading his team to the victory, and the state tournament. Fellow sophomore Tory Holland scored 10 points with seven boards.
Tip Of the Hat to the Career: Six-foot-2 senior guard Trey Ramstad averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists a game shooting 58 percent from the floor plus being a top defender for his team. Ramstad led his team to a 20 win season before falling short in the playoffs. Ramstad is a combo guard that earlier in the year made headlines with a 46 point game. He and Concordia University Nebraska signed 6-foot-9 big Casey Stegeman led the team to a nice season.
