Continue ReadingThe Hartville Eagles capped off their magical season with an impressive 69-40 victory over Skyline to secure the Class 2 State Championship. Hartville was operating on all cylinders right out of the gates and was able to cruise to the win and get everyone involved in the festivities. They finish the season with a stellar 31-2 record. Skyline battled to the end, and the runner-up Tigers finish the season 30-3 overall. Here’s a look at the top performers from the title game:
6’3 Jr Recko Bailey Recko Bailey 5'10" | PG Vashon | 2021 State MO | Hartville
Ryce has been a leader for the balanced and dangerous Eagles all season, and this game was no exception. He took on the role of post player for the most part against Skyline and had a dominant performance. He did a nice job of timing his seals and had a number of easy drop step baskets thanks to his work before receiving the ball. He put up a monster line of 18 points and 14 rebounds in the championship win.
6’3 Jr Braden Branstetter | Hartville
Branstetter followed up a 27 point semi-final performance by pumping in 20 points in the title game against Skyline. He was an efficient 9/13 from the field with some well timed back-door cuts, tough runners in traffic, and some solid pull-up jumpers. He also did a nice job of getting his feet set coming off screens and knocking down a pair of big three pointers.
6’2 Sr Holton Simmons | Hartville
I can’t think of many better ways to wrap up a playing career than drilling a three pointer in your final shot to seal a state championship, and Holton did just that. He buried another three earlier in the game and mixed in some transition buckets. He finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
5’9 So Lawson Beem | Skyline
The talented sophomore did his best to keep Skyline within striking distance, dropping in a team-high 18 points for the Tigers. He is crafty with the ball. Did a nice job of rejecting a ballscreen and pulling up for a corner three and regularly knifed and spun his way to the paint for scoring opportunities.
5’9 Sr Dax Beem | Skyline
Dax converted on a tough spin move and left handed finish early and knocked down an NBA range pull-up transition three later in the game. He finished with just 8 points in the contest but surpassed 2000 points in his storied career at Skyline.
