Senior Sunday Recruiting Notebook
With the high school season complete 2020 prospects will now turn their attention to their recruitments. Each Sunday we will break down a group of seniors and where things stand with their college recruitments in our Senior Sunday series!
Ramean Hinton Ramean Hinton 6'4" | SG Curie | 2020 State #181 Nation IL (Curie)
Hinton is a high-motor two way wing that impacts the game with his energy and toughness. Improved scorer and shooter. The Curie star recently decommitted from SEMO after they parted ways with their coach. As of Sunday, March 15 Hinton has still not received his release from his NLI from SEMO. Once that happens he will garner significant mid-major offers!
Jeremiah Williams Jeremiah Williams 6'5" | SF Simeon | 2020 State #278 Nation IL (Simeon)
Williams had a monster second half of the season and was the player who elevated the Wolverines strong second half of the season. The slashing wing and all-around player will now turn his focus to recruiting. He told PHI “Right now I’ve been talking to Temple a lot building a good relationship with a coach there. Loyola is back in the picture. SIU, Western Kentucky, Houston, St. Bonaventure, Towson, and Little Rock. But the virus is slowing things down.” With no in person recruiting or visits Williams says he plans on waiting things out as he wants to visit Temple and see where things develop.
Jayden Johnson Jayden Johnson 6'5" | SF Batavia | 2020 State #276 Nation IL (Batavia)
Johnson is one of the premier shooters in the senior class. Finally Johnson last week received his first D1 offer from UIC. Then the Flames staff was let go so the status of his recruitment is back up in the air. Still has quite a bit of D2 interest.
Christian Shumate Christian Shumate 6'5" | PF Bloom | 2020 State #376 Nation IL (Bloom)
Shumate is an athletic undersized four man that is an elite level athlete changing the game with his high flying dunks and blocks. Shumate says he plans on setting up visits to Northern Kentucky, Tulsa, and maybe Southern Utah. With the NCAA travel ban that will have to wait until after April 15. He tells PHI that Tulsa and Northern Kentucky are the leaders in his recruitment at this current moment.
Kennedy Brown Kennedy Brown 6'8" | PF Bogan | 2020 State IL (Bogan)
Brown is an interesting case as he emerged as a junior and was starting to take the next step in his development before leaving for Core 4 Prep in Georgia. Things didn’t work out there for the power forward so he came back to Bogan where he played the last several games of the year with the Bengals. We saw him look dominant at the UIC Elite Camp back in August where he landed an offer. That is up in the air with their coaching change. Other schools that have been in contact include Tulsa and Temple. As of now the plan is to play AAU this spring/summer with the Mac Irvin Fire and pick a prep school while reclassifying to 2021.
Jayson Kent Jayson Kent 6'6" | SG Oak Forest | 2020 State IL (Oak Forest)
Kent is one of the more intriguing wings remaining on the board. Long and lanky wing with size and a big time shooting stroke. He tells PHI that he holds offers from “Bradley, Loyola (MD), SIU-Edwardsville. I’ve been talking to South Dakota State, Mount Saint Mary’s, and some other schools I can’t remember.” He is not close to making a decision right now.
Will Wolfe
Will
Wolfe
6'5" | SF
Oswego East | 2020
State
IL
(Oswego East)
Wolfe is a wiry strong small forward that has an excellent mid-range game. Had a very good career on the travel team circuit for the Illinois Wolves. The Oswego East wing tells us that he has been talking to D2s Southern Indiana and Quincy lately, but that he is open to anything at this point.
Dominic Martinelli Dominic Martinelli 6'5" | PF Glenbrook South | 2020 State IL (Glenbrook South)
Martinelli had a hugely productive senior campaign as the 6’5” combo forward was one of the top scorers in the state with his unique game. On the recruiting front he tells PHI “Right now still just have the two offers from Gannon and Northern Michigan. Also receiving interest from UMKC and a couple of D2s.” With the ban on visits until mid-April what is his plan? “Yeah so now I’m note exactly sure. Might have to wait it out to go look at schools.”
Paul Zilinskas Paul Zilinskas 6'4" | SF Riverside Brookfield | 2020 State IL (Riverside Brookfield)
This skilled small forward had an excellent season for RB. Plus shooter that has an all-around skilled game. Right now Quincy has the lead for his services, but is still entertaining interest from Trinity Christian, St. Xavier, and Governor’s State.
Juan Avila Juan Avila 6'4" | SG Oak Forest | 2020 State IL (Oak Forest)
Avila is a sharp shooting two guard that had a big senior season for Oak Forest as part of their trio of stars that led them to one of the most memorable seasons in school history. On Saturday night Avila decided to take his talents to Loras for his college basketball.
