Erickson is still uncommitted but he has heard from several four school years and has an offer from D1 Eastern Washington. He is a well-known prospect who has been on the radar of many schools for several years due to his height and shooting ability. I have watched him play in person 8 times this season. I am pleased to say he has improved his maturity and expanded his game. He is a respected and well-liked team leader at Federal Way despite transferring in this season from Enumclaw- a league rival.
Erickson’s final five games at Federal Way were all against 4A State Tourney participants: Sumner, Mt. Si, Battle Ground, Central Valley, and Auburn. In those five games, Erickson made 10 three-pointers and averaged 14.2 points per game.
His best offensive attribute is his ability to outrun defenders in transition, catch long passes, rise up and knock down deep threes. Early on the word on Erickson was he appeared to be another soft, big man who only wanted to stay outside. That has changed. Throughout the playoffs and at the State Tournament, he has showcased a willingness and ability to score inside through contact. He is also an excellent high post passer.
Erickson may not be done growing and could end up 6-8 should he grow into his feet and hands. He is already an excellent jumper with thick legs and broad shoulders. Whether he gets much bigger or not, he is not going to be bullied at the next level.
Erickson is a serious student (3.5 GPA) and is open to a redshirt season. Also he is tentatively planning a one-year church mission after his freshman season. The possibility of having Erickson on the roster as a 20-year-old, redshirt freshman has more than a few college coaches intrigued.
