Several players carried the momentum from their freshmen season over into their sophomore year, while others emerged seemingly from nowhere. In this article, we take a scout’s look at some of the top players from the class of 2022.
Milos Uzan Milos Uzan 6'4" | PG Dream City Christian | 2022 State #60 Nation AZ 6’3 SG Desert Pines (#1)
Strengths: ballhandling. passing
Weakness: upper body strength
Scouting Report: Crafty ballhandler. Coach’s son IQ combined with elite skills. At this point, I would rather make him beat me scoring than allowing him to create for others. He’s a pure PG with an elite handle so you have to stay disciplined against him both on the ball and helpside. Force him inside the line, stay attached to shooters and force him to make contested mid-range shots.

Joshua Jefferson Joshua Jefferson 6'8" | PF Liberty | 2022 State #158 Nation NV 6’6 SF Liberty (#30) (featured image) –
Strengths: Post offense, rebounding
Weakness: R&J athleticism
Scouting Report: Elite post player. If you let him catch it clean with 1 defender on his back, it’s over. Have to 3/4 or front him. If he gets going you may have to send a double. Not really a stretch, however he has been improving his 3 pt shooting so you can’t just let him shoot. Not an elite run and jump athlete but good enough to finish and rebound at a high level.
Ceiling: Glen Davis
Ryan Abelman Ryan Abelman 6'4" | SG Bishop Gorman | 2022 State NV 6’2 SG Bishop Gorman (#4) –
Strengths: shooting
Weakness: Limited offensive skillset
Scouting Report: One of the most difficult players to scout. He plays on one of the best teams in the country, however, he only sees limited minutes. When he is on the floor, he is looking to provide one thing, shooting. If you run him off the line, it’s a win. You can’t allow him to beat you with his shooting, his favorite spot is the corner 3.
Ceiling: Gerry Mcnamara
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Las Vegas (#6) –
Strengths: playmaking, rebounding
Weakness: upper body strength
Scouting Report: Jackson is a pure PG with enough shooting ability to space the floor. He’s an elite rebounder for the PG position. Must keep him off both the defensive and offensive glass, as Jackson has the ability to grab the rebound and lead the break. I would make him chase off-ball screens when on defense in order to wear him down.
Ceiling: CJ Mccollum
Shane Thomas Shane Thomas 6'3" | SG Durango | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Centennial (#12)
Strengths: shooting, R&J athleticism
Weakness: Availablity
Scouting Report: Lefty shooter. You have to be extremely disciplined in your closeouts. He is good enough to show the ball, and explosive enough to finish strong at the rim. Best bet is to force him to shoot it against a late closeout. You have to take away either his transition buckets or his open 3’s
