Continue ReadingThe conclusion of the Ball Dawgs All-Star game also marks the conclusion of the High School season. It was a tremendous year for the class of 2021. The star power and depth in this class give it a chance to be one of the best crop of Nevada talent in a long time. In this article, we take a scout’s look at some of the top players from the class of 2021.
Jaden Hardy Jaden Hardy 6'4" | CG Coronado | 2021 State #4 Nation NV 6’5 PG Coronado (#1) –
Strengths: Overall offensive skill set, positional size
Weakness: defensive engagement
Scouting Report: He’s a pro playing in high school. You have to take the ball out of his hands. Be creative how and when you run two at him. Hard trap every ball screen. If you have a good backup perimeter defender, you can use him to pick Hardy up full court in hopes of wearing him down. Capable of beating you by himself.
Ceiling: Damian Lillard
Zaon Collins Zaon Collins 6'0" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2021 #37 Nation NV 6’0 PG Bishop Gorman (#2) –
Strengths: ball speed, R&J athleticism
Weakness: outside shooting
Scouting Report: Elite PG athlete capable of playing effectively at high speeds. You have to make him beat you with the jumper. If he’s making them, you’re in trouble. Close short to him and stay disciplined, while the other 4 defenders are loaded against the drive. Once in the lane, I’d rather have him making the pass vs finishing himself.

Glenn Taylor Glenn Taylor 6'5" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2021 State #162 Nation AZ 6’5 SF Cheyenne (#4) (featured image) –
Strengths: Offensive versatility, basketball IQ, Pace
Weakness: R&J athleticism
Scouting Report: Type of player that is good at everything but not great at any one thing. The difference with Taylor is that he is really good at all of those things. He can go right or left, but you’re going to have to send him one direction to at least cut off his options. Very patient player, but he’s not an elite run and jump athlete so you can try to pick spots to speed him up.
Ceiling: Evan Turner
Ethan Speaker Ethan Speaker 6'6" | SF Boulder City | 2021 State NV 6’6 SF Boulder City (#7) –
Strengths: Multi-level scorer, R&J athleticism
Weakness: FT shooting
Scouting Report: Has a good frame and is a better athlete than he gets credit for. He’s a shooter but not a knockdown one. Close late with a high hand. No transition baskets, no putbacks. He is not a great free-throw shooter, so be physical with him. Hard clean foul vs giving up layups.
Ceiling: Luke Recker
Azavier Johnson Azavier Johnson 6'4" | CG Faith Lutheran | 2021 State NV 6’4 PG Faith Lutheran (#9) –
Strengths: IQ, Positional size
Weakness: 3pt shooting
Scouting Report: Is more of a combo, but because of his passing ability he’s simply too much of a matchup problem when running the point. Make him beat you with jumpers first. If that is falling, run at him but stay attached to shooters, Johnson would rather make a play for his teammates than finish himself.
Ceiling: Andre Miller
