Continue ReadingWith the 2019-2020 season in the books its time to take a look at who were some of the top performers in the five major districts (6A & 5A) in the San Antonio-Metroplex. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will dive deep into the main statistical categories of the top-scoring, three-point shooting, rebounding, and defensive players in each district, as well as our All-District team selections.
This week we will be focusing on District 28-6A, which features high school programs: Brandeis Broncos, Brennan Bears, Clark Cougars, Holmes Huskies, Jay Mustangs, Marshall Rams, O’Connor Panthers, Stevens Falcons, Taft Raiders, and Warren Warriors.
In this article, we highlight the top all-around scorers from District 28-6A on a points-per-game basis. These top-five scorers showed the ability to put up points in a multitude of ways, including finishing at the rim, creating their own shot in the mid-range and from beyond the arc, as well as flashing in fast-break opportunities.
Here are the top five all-around scorers from District 28-6A during the 2019-2020 season:
Ze’Rik Onyema Ze’Rik Onyema 6'7" | C San Antonio John Jay | 2020 State TX – 6-7 Forward – Jay (2020)
Onyema dominated the paint during his senior season averaging 18.1 points per game and hitting 62% of his shots from the floor. Poster dunks and athletic finishes above the rim highlighted his offensive skill set in his Hudl tapes, and with a developing shot, he can play either forward position for his future college team in the UTEP Miners.
Adam Benhayoune – 6-4 Forward – O’Connor (2021)
A do-it-all forward with a variety of post moves, Benhayoune finished second in scoring in District 28-6A with 17.5 points per game for the Panthers. Not only can he score in the low post, but Benhayoune showed he has deep range hitting 43 three-pointers and 39% of his attempts during the season.
Tysen Rodgers – 6-0 Guard – Marshall (2020)
Rodgers excels at creating his own shot and finishing at the rim, all while boasting a good mid-range jumper. Averaging 17.4 points per game during the season, Rodgers also hit 35% from three-point range and 74% from the free-throw line.
Norman Beckford Norman Beckford 6'6" | PF San Antonio Brennan | 2020 State TX – 6-6 Forward – Brennan (2020)
Beckford was the leading scorer for the Bears averaging 15.6 points per game. His Hudl tape features a great ability to finish at the rim, whether in their half-court offense or on a fast break opportunity. Beckford is committed to play for State Mary’s University out of San Antonio.
Kyle Castille Kyle Castille 6'4" | SF San Antonio Brennan | 2020 State TX – 6-4 Forward – Brennan (2020)
Castille was a big part of the two-headed scoring attack, with Beckford, for the Bears this season as he averaged 15.5 points per game. The majority of Castille’s points came from dunks in the low post or creating his own shot in the mid-range game, hitting 60% of his shots from the floor.
