Continue ReadingWith the 2019-2020 season in the books its time to take a look at who were some of the top performers in the five major districts (6A & 5A) in the San Antonio-Metroplex. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will dive deep into the main statistical categories of the top-scoring, three-point shooting, rebounding, and defensive players in each district, as well as our All-District team selections.
This week we will be focusing on District 28-6A, which features high school programs: Brandeis Broncos, Brennan Bears, Clark Cougars, Holmes Huskies, Jay Mustangs, Marshall Rams, O’Connor Panthers, Stevens Falcons, Taft Raiders, and Warren Warriors.
We highlighted the top five scorers on Monday and will take it a step further in today’s article by focusing on the best three-point shooters in District 28. Each of these deep-range sharpshooters hit over 50 shots from beyond the arc this season, all while nailing at least 35% of their attempts.
Here are the top three-point shooters from District 28-6A during the 2019-2020 season:
Tyler Gertson – 5-11 Guard – Marshall (2021)
Gertson was prolific from beyond the arc this past season as he led District 28 in both makes (97) and three-point percentage (49%) on his 198 attempts. With a quick release, Gertson is able to get his shot up with deadly accuracy whether a defender is in his face or if he is catching a pass off a screen.
Tanner Brown – 6-2 Guard – Brandeis (2020)
Brown finished second in both statistical shooting categories with a 46% clip from three and 86 makes on 186 attempts. Similar to Gertson, Brown has remarkable accuracy from beyond the arc and hit shots from way downtown, even with a defender in his face. Playing point guard for the Broncos, Brown is decisive in his decision making and excels at knowing when to pull the trigger from deep.
Kyle Schaefer – 6-3 Guard – Brandeis (2020)
The combo-guard played beside Brown in the backcourt for the Broncos, forming a formidable sharpshooting duo that hit over 160 three-point shots on the season. With 76 makes on 194 attempts (39%), Schaefer was deadly as a spot-up shooter but also showed the ability to create shots on his own.
Jaden Moore Jaden Moore 6'4" | PF San Antonio Brennan | 2020 State TX – 6-5 Guard – Brennan (2020)
Moore exemplified good shooting technique as a spot-up shooter hitting 35% of his shots from beyond the arc, and finishing in fourth in district with 69 makes on 200 attempts. Whether it was from the top of the key or in the corner, Moore hit his open shots when the opportunity presented itself and averaged 13 points per game as a senior.
Nick Vann – 6-0 Guard – Warren (2020)
The senior guard for the Warriors is fifth on the list in makes (56) but hit 39% from deep on the season, which tied for the third-best percentage of players who shots over 140 attempts. When given space Vann can knock down the open three, and has a quick release when coming off screens.
Diego Sepulveda-Allen – 5-11 Guard – Marshall (2021)
Although Sepulveda-Allen only shot 126 attempts on the season, he did hit 44% of those shots with 55 makes giving him the third-best three-point percentage in the district. With legit NBA range, like his frontcourt teammate Gertson, Sepulveda-Allen will be one to watch moving forward as he enters into his senior season in 2021.
