Here are some players to watch in Region 8:
Noah Fredrickson, Powers Lake
Powers Lake is the favorite to return to state and the fulcrum in the Ranchers’ success has been Fredrickson. He’s taken his game to another level with more responsibility, serving as the team’s go-to scoring option and primary playmaker. He’s a big guard who uses his size to create separation in the halfcourt, and he sees the floor well, creating open looks for his teammates and manipulating defenders to get himself free for a shot.
Jesse White, White Shield
White Shield hasn’t been as good as some expected, but the Warriors are always going to be dangerous because of White. The 5-foot-11 junior combo guard is one of the most explosive scorers in Class B – possessing deep range, explosive quickness and a crafty finishing ability. If there’s a guy who can put the team on his back and go on a run, White is him.
Isaac Nordloef, Powers Lake
Nordloef was a key piece last year in the Ranchers’ run to state and he’s been strong again this year. He’s got the size and strength to bully people inside and the shooting ability to stretch the floor and pull bigger defenders away from the rim. He anchors the Ranchers’ defense and rebounds his area at a high rate.
Hayden Andes, Lewis and Clark – North Shore
In a region with a number of solid forwards, Andes stands above the rest. The senior center is a double-double machine, possessing the size and strength to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor. His ability to score in the low post causes fits for teams and he can create his own shot in the mid post area – and he’s a menace on the offensive glass.
Tristen Williams, New Town
Williams has been a catalyst for New Town’s strong year, as he sets the tone on both ends of the floor. A talented lead guard who can score, facilitate and defend all over the floor, Williams has been a consistent leader for the Eagles and gives them a great shot to go a long way in the region tourney.
Chontay LaCroix, White Shield
LaCroix forms the second half of a terrific one-two punch for the Warriors. The 6-foot senior guard averages 16 points and four assists, showing the ability to break down defenders and get to the rim practically whenever he wants and he’s a natural playmaker.
Brock Viall, Ray
Viall’s one of the best guards in the region and sets the tone for the Jays on both ends of the floor. He’s a consistent offensive force who can not only get his own shot, but he’s an excellent playmaker and facilitator.
Shooter Stewart, New Town
New Town has been one of the best teams in Class B this year in somewhat surprising fashion and Stewart has been a catalyst in that effort. The senior swingman is a strong perimeter shooter who can create his shot against anybody and guard up or down the opposing lineup.
Ty Edwards, Lewis and Clark – North Shore
Edwards joins Andes to form one of the best one-two punches in the region. Edwards is a talented combo guard who can shoot from practically anywhere on the floor, get to the paint and finish over length and create his own shot against anybody.
Jaden McNeiley, Kenmare
McNeiley and the Honkers advance to the region tournament thanks to a solid run in District 16. McNeiley is a big, strong off guard who can stretch the defense in a big way. He’s the closest thing the Honkers have to a go-to scorer and he can fill it up in a hurry.
Lance Fuentes, Divide County
Divide County is offensively challenged at times but a guy it can rely on is senior point guard Lance Fuentes. He’s undersized, but he’s a strong long-range shooter, has the ability to break down primary defenders and he’s an adept passer.
