Here are some of the top players to watch in Region 6
Jaden Hamilton, Rugby
The Player-of-the-Year in the district and an all-state forward, Hamilton has turned in a terrific senior season, averaging 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He’s an excellent shooter, can create his own shot in the mid and low posts, make plays for his teammates and can guard up or down a lineup. He’s a matchup nightmare for the opposition and few teams have a guy who can handle him.
Trace Goven, Rugby
Goven’s been an excellent player for the Panthers for a number of years and he’s got a chance to lead them to state as a senior. A terrific two-way player, Goven averages 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. He’s so difficult to keep out of the paint and he’s a strong finisher or distributor.
Zach Henderickson, Our Redeemers
A talented sophomore guard, Hendrickson is one of the top underclassmen in Class B and has a chance to emerge as an all-state type guy with time. He’s capable of putting on big scoring performances, as he’s a solid perimeter shooter and has the athleticism and burst to get to the rim and finish. And he’s a solid defender who can guard up or down a lineup.
Landon Lang, Our Redeemers
Lang is the anchor for a Knights team that excels on both ends of the floor. His strength and tenacity inside allows him to produce consistently. He’s not the tallest guy, but he’s tough, has solid short-area quickness and explosiveness and can finish in traffic. His defense has been equally important, as he’s emerged as an excellent paint-protector for a team that relies on winning games in the 50s.
Lucas Undlin, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood
Undlin is one of the better wing players in the region and has been a consistent two-way presence for the Mavericks. He’s capable of getting his shot against any defender, using his size or his athleticism to separate. He’s a solid outside shooter but does his best work when he’s breaking down defenders, getting into gaps and finishing at the rim.
Devan Michels, Rugby
Michels is having a very solid senior year running the show for the Panthers. He isn’t the featured scorer, but he averages 10 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists, while providing high-end defense at the point of attack. He’s improved as a 3-point shooter and has shown he can pick up the slack when other guys are struggling.
Will Sanders, Our Redeemers
Sanders has emerged as a terrific lead guard in his junior year for the Knights and getting it done on both ends. He’s arguably the team’s best defender, capable of harassing opposing ballhandlers, pressuring the passing lanes and spearheading a strong team defense. His scoring has come along as the year’s gone on too, developing into a consistent double-figure scorer and go-to bucket-getter.
Walker Wold, Lewis and Clark-Berthold
A scoring machine in the frontcourt, Wold can do it all on the offensive end of the floor. At 6-foot-3, he’s a matchup nightmare for opponents because he’s strong on the low post, active on the glass, capable of taking bigger guys away from the hoop and making plays and knocking down shots.
Jethro Lauren, Nedrose
Lauren was an all-district guy for Nedrose and sets the tone on both ends of the floor. He’s an excellent long-range shooter who can fill it up from all over the floor. And he’s a natural playmaker.
Logan Merck, Bishop Ryan
The go-to guy for the Lions, Merck is a tough, physical lead guard who can bully defenders on both ends of the floor. He’s not the biggest kid, but he’s strong and knows how to use his lack of height as a leverage advantage. Merck can get hot and put on a show offensively too.
