Continue ReadingLast year, the Division Two bracket featured prospects like Jalen Johnson, Michael Foster Jr., Jamari Sibley, Tre White, and Johnny Davis. If you were looking for star power, D2 was the place to go.
This year, it will be a bit different. Foster, Sibley, and White all opted to leave the state for prep schools. Johnson and Davis are still in Wisconsin, but the pool of stars has been significantly drained.
Drained does not mean dry, though. There are still plenty of notable prospects in the Division Two field. Prep Hoops Wisconsin lists ten players to keep an eye on during the D2 playoffs:
James Graham — Nicolet — SF
Since Jalen Johnson returned to Nicolet, it seems like Graham has almost been forgotten about. In the playoffs, expect Graham to remind people how good he is. The 6-foot-7 small forward has become one of the better overall 2021 prospects in Wisconsin. Graham is big and strong enough to dominate in the paint, but he is also versatile enough to step outside and drain long-range shots.
Because the Knights have a pretty tough road ahead of them, Graham will need to continue playing his best in the playoffs.
Victor Desmond — Onalaska — SF
Desmond is going to be a critical piece for Onalaska in the playoffs. He is averaging just 6.7 points per game, but the small forward impacts the game in so many other aspects besides scoring. Using his 6-foot-4 frame, Desmond is a really great defender. He can block shots, get steals, and is overall a tough player to score on.
Expect Desmond to play a huge role for the Hilltoppers in March.
Parker Lawrence — Hortonville — PG
Lawrence is a vastly underrated prospect in the 2021 class. The point guard’s play was a big reason why Hortonville was able to earn a one-seed in sectional #1. Lawrence is a steady hand in the backcourt for the Polar Bears. When crunch time hits, Lawrence wants the ball in his hands.
The PG is averaging 14.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per contest.
Jayden Jackson — Whitefish Bay — SG
Jackson doesn’t have very many weaknesses on the offensive end of the court. The shooting guard is an efficient scorer from behind the arc, in the midrange, and at the rim.
After having a very impressive AAU season with ABC Young Lions, Jackson has continued to light up defenses. He is tallying 20.3 points per game on 54 percent shooting. Jackson will only get better with the pressure of elimination looming.
Cael McGee — Stoughton — SG
Stoughton and McGee are primed to do some significant damage in the tournament. In the regular season, McGee scored 15.8 points per game and helped lead the Vikings to 19-3 record.
The 6-foot-2 shooting guard is an athletic prospect who gives it his all every time he laces up his shoes. McGee never even thinks about using the breaks — he just jams his foot down on the gas pedal.
Tyrese England — Wisconsin Lutheran — PG
The playoffs could finally be the time for England to shine. The 6-foot point guard is a fantastic scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in just about every way possible.
He has some interest from multiple JUCO programs, but if he plays well in March, England could catch the eye of some higher-level programs.
Cade Meyer — Monroe — PF
Meyer’s play this season has proved that his amazing spring and summer with Wisconsin Playground Club was no fluke. He put up 18.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as a junior. The Monroe power forward has all of the skills necessary to lead his team to a deep March run.
Meyer is a strong and physical prospect who will be very tough for opposing teams to stop. Expect the 2021 prospect to play his best basketball in the coming weeks.
Jack Rose — Westosha Central — SG
When Rose is on the court, he almost always is doing positive things for Westosha Central. The SG is the epitome of a team player. He plays hard on defense, makes hustle plays, and can score with ease in a multitude of different ways.
When he is hot, Rose is the type of player you don’t want to see in March
Shelton Williams-Dryden — Milwaukee Bay View — PF
Can Milwaukee Bay View make a surprise run to Madison? If Williams-Dryden has anything to say about it, the Redcats will be making a deep run into the playoffs. The 6-foot-4 power forward, who was forced to play on the JV team last year due to the WIAA’s transfer rules, is a double-double machine. He is averaging 20.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game as a senior.
Keep an eye on Williams-Dryden. He is more than capable of making some noise in these playoffs.
Leon Bond — Wauwatosa East — PF
Bond can absolutely dominate games in the paint. He is athletic, strong, and very powerful. While this season didn’t go quite as well as Bond and Tosa East hoped it would, they still are a big threat in the Division Two playoffs. Going through the gauntlet in the Greater Metro Conference has prepared this team very well.
Don’t forget about Bond and TE.
