We caught up with Kevin Branson Jr of 4:13 Athletics to discuss their upcoming season! Check out what he had to say!
The History: Our program is new on the scene. 4:13 Athletics was founded in 2018 and had our first spring/summer season last year in 2019.
2020 Goals: This year we are looking for exposure for our program. We want our program to be a staple in Minneapolis and to reach great players who don’t have the means to play for the known local traveling basketball programs in MN.
The Mission: 4:13 Athletics is a competitive basketball program driven to impact underserved youth using an individualized approach through positive mentors with a commitment to academic excellence and community service to maximize each student-athlete’s holistic development.
Each year we want to use basketball as a platform to expose youth to various life lessons and opportunities. Our program is inspired by the bible verse Phillippians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” We want the youth in our program to know that they can do anything they put their mind up to, on and off the basketball court.
Why Prep Hoops: We chose the Prep Hoops circuit for exposure. We play at the 16U age division and have a core of sophomores with varsity experience around the MN metro area High Schools. Our roster is talented but underrated, we want to show what we can do on this circuit and put our program on the map.
Team Strengths: We are a versatile group that runs a small ball type offense at a fast pace. Our guards have great size and are explosive. The same can be said about our bigs but the bigs are also agile and can spread the floor with their ball handling and shooting. We communicate with each other well and use our size and length to cause problems for opposing teams on defense and our speed and physicality to attack the rim on offense.
X-Factor Players:
| 2022 | 6’3 | PG |Jacob Butler | MPLS North | who can play positions 1-4, knockdown shooter, playmaker. Loves to penetrate and attack the rim very crafty passer, great vision, and great work ethic with good communication on the court (offense and Defense) Impressive Motor, never gives up on plays.
Players to Watch:
| 2022 | Jacob Butler | North HS Minneapolis, MN | is our motor. He uses his unique body frame to his advantage. He continues to be a knockdown shooter and more importantly a playmaker with his passing ability. On the defensive side of the ball he has an opportunistic attitude, always looking to create turnovers.
| 2022 | Amir Everett | Delasalle HS Minneapolis, MN | is fundamentally sound, and a vocal leader on both sides of the ball. He can score inside and out, plus is a lockdown defender on the other side of the ball. To put it simply, Amir is a winner.
|2022 | 6’4 | Mileo Patterson | Cooper HS Robbinsdale, MN | is a big man for our team. He is aggressive with athletic potential out of this world.
| 2022 | 6’2 | Jayvion Walker | St. Croix Lutheran West St. Paul, MN | is a presence in the paint. He is a relentless rebounder with a soft touch around the rim. Walker is also skilled enough with the ball to step out and play on the wing.
| 2022 | Bryant “BJ” Hollowell | Cristo Rey HS Minneapolis, MN | is the point guard of our team. He orchestrates the offense, brings control to out of control situations, and has a never back down attitude. BJ can shoot and create for others with his driving ability.
