As High School Basketball comes to a close, we decided to reach out to local top prospects for an update on where things currently stand in their recruitment, as well as how recent shutdowns have affected their summer plans. As we know Nebraska has a rich talent pool of players in the upcoming classes, and here is where some of the key prospects are at in the process.
2020 Prospects
- Ty Griggs | Omaha South
Ty finished his career at Omaha South this season averaging roughly 16ppg, 4.5rpg, shooting 51% from the field, and 41% from 3pt as a Senior; while leading Omaha South to the second round of the State Tournament (following a State Championship in 2019). Up to this point he has received interest and offers from numerous NAIA teams, including Peru State, Midland, Bellevue University, and Hastings. He has also heard from two D2 schools as of late: Barry University in Florida and Washburn University in Kansas. He is not ruling out Junior College options to this point and has been exploring some local ones, as well as receiving an offer from Southern Arkansas Tech. What Ty looks for in a good fit is whatever the best opportunity is for his family, regarding scholarships, graduation rates, distance from home, and relationships with the coaches and staff.
- Carter Kingsbury Carter Kingsbury 6'4" | SF Ponca | 2020 State NE | Ponca
Carter finished his career at Ponca with another strong 22 points per game campaign ending in a State Tournament berth, adding that to his resume of a two time State Champion and three time All-Stater. Currently, he has received offers from most of the NAIA schools around Nebraska, and the main offer being from Wayne State. He is currently considering the option of going to prep school for a year to continue his development as a player before college, and there is a strong possibility he goes that route. When making his college decision, it will be important for him to be able to see the campus, and get to know the coaches and see what type of style they use, and how he fits into it. Also wants to make sure he finds the school that is the best fit for him academically and has the major he is interested in.
2021 Prospects
- Jadin Johnson Jadin Johnson 6'4" | PG Millard North | 2021 State NE | Millard North
Jadin joined Millard North this year after spending his last two seasons at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. He was the primary facilitator on a team filled with top level players, averaging roughly 5 assists per game, and having one of his best performances in Millard North’s win over Omaha South in the Semifinals to make the State Championship. As it currently stands, he has been in communication with teams such as Providence, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, Marshall, Iowa, Utah State, Bradley, Yale, Indiana State, Drake, and San Diego State has recently reached out as well. Out of those, he talks the most with Virginia Tech, Utah State, and Old Dominion and visits are in the works with those schools. When asked what factors most into a decision, he said he wants to choose the school that feels like the best fit for him personally, academically, socially, and where his game fits in the best.
- Cam Binder Cam Binder 6'0" | CG Auburn | 2021 State NE | Auburn
After leading Auburn to an undefeated season and second consecutive State Championship, Cam was able to touch base with us and update us on how things currently stand for his recruitment. He said that since the end of this season things have really picked up, and he has heard from Missouri Western, North Dakota State, Columbia, Cornell, Wayne State, Kearney, Minot State, UNO, North Dakota, San Diego State, and Pittsburg State University the most. When it comes time to narrow down his options, he will look for a team that has the opportunity to come in and make an impact right away, as well as a team with a great overall bond that will welcome him into their family.
- Denim Johnson Denim Johnson 6'1" | CG Omaha Central | 2021 State NE | Omaha Benson
Denim finishes his Junior Season at Omaha Benson, after transferring from Omaha Central, by entering into the Top 5 2021 player rankings and being one of the most prolific scorers in Class A this season, averaging 15.5ppg on 50% shooting, to go along with 8rpg and 5apg. As of now he is just wanting to keep his recruiting options open, and has heard from a wide array of schools in the Midwest ranging from NAIA to the D1 level. Assuming AAU season happens, he’d like to have a top 5 list of schools in place at the end of the summer, but with everything going on right now we will just have to wait and see. Some big factors that go into his decision will be how many people they are bringing in at his position, where the college is located, and the playing style of the coaching staff.
Mike Sautter // Omaha World Herald- Faisaun Germany Faisaun Germany 6'1" | CG Omaha Central | 2022 TN | Omaha Central
Faisaun ends his Junior Year campaign doing a little bit of everything for Central, averaging roughly 6 points per game, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He hit his stride around the middle of the season, reaching double digits in 4 out of 5 games, and is looking to continue to develop for his Senior Year. He has heard from a few schools in the area, including Nebraska, Iowa, UNO, and Wayne State, as well as some Junior Colleges, and is looking to keep his options open for what comes next. When making his decision, he is going to plan for the next 40 years, not just the next 4, and so look for academics and player development to be a key factor.
2022 Prospects
- Jasen Green Jasen Green 6'7" | PF Millard North | 2022 State #153 Nation NE | Millard North
Jasen ends his Sophomore Season as the #1 player in our rankings for the 2022 class after averaging 11 points per game on 58% FG shooting, and 5 rebounds for star studded Millard North. As of now he says Nebraska is his lone offer, and that things have been pretty quiet lately. He has received a few letters of interest from some local schools, including Colorado and Creighton, but Nebraska has definitely had the most contact with him up to this point.
- Isaac Traudt Isaac Traudt 6'9" | SF Grand Island | 2022 State #45 Nation NE | Grand Island
Isaac’s leap from a Freshman averaging 2ppg to a Sophomore averaging 17ppg and 6rpg is something schools have definitely started to take notice of. Lead by a 31 point outburst in just the second game of the season against Lincoln High, he went on to score in double figures in all but just four games, notching over 20 points nine different times. Lately he has been in contact with Creighton, Drake, Colorado State, UNO, and more. UNO has came to watch him play twice, and he went on an unofficial visit to Creighton which he was very impressed with and can’t wait to return. He is currently in the process of setting up a time to visit with Colorado State and Drake, but obviously the shutdowns have put a pause on that. When discussing what he most is looking for in a school, he said he wants a good relationship with the coaches and players, and find the place that feels most like home.
Jimmy Rash // The Independent- Cale Jacobsen Cale Jacobsen 6'3" | CG Ashland Greenwood | 2022 State NE | Ashland-Greenwood
Cale Jacobsen Cale Jacobsen 6'3" | CG Ashland Greenwood | 2022 State NE is just a Sophomore, but you’d never guess that by looking at his 6’3 and 180lb frame, or by looking at his stats as he finished this season as the 6th highest scorer in Nebraska at just under 24 points per game. Currently he has an offer from Western Missouri, and some interest from UNO, but you can definitely expect things to heat up as soon as everything is back to normal with AAU season and next year’s high school season.
