With that being said, here’s a look at some prospects to watch from each team in the final game.
Winston-Salem Prep
Senior Stephen Minor – Guard
Minor is producing 14.8 points, 5.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest and has stepped his game up a ton in the 1A State Playoffs. He put up a triple-double in their fourth-round victory over Mountain Island Charter with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In their 65-60 victory over Chatham Charter, he put up 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. He’ll be a solid player for the Pride to stop this Saturday.
Junior T.J. Mills T.J. Mills 6'3" | CG Quality Education | 2021 State NC – Guard
Mills is a tough player to stop on the wing with his ability to create off the dribble. He put up 25 points (three 3-pointers) along with four assists in their win over Chatham Charter in the West Region final. He leads the team in scoring this season 17.5 points per contest while also producing 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Junior Anthony Sellars Anthony Sellars 6'7" | SF Quality Education Academy | 2022 State NC – Forward
Sellars is a junior forward that’s just scratching the surface in the frontcourt. He’s an X-Factor heading in against a team with not much size. He’s averaging 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest for Winston-Salem Prep this season.
Sophomore Tyler Ledwell – Guard
Ledwell is a young prospect finding his way for the Phoenix. He’s a guard that’s really come into his own in the playoffs. He went off for a personal 7-0 run of his own against Chatham Charter in the Regional Finals.
Henderson Collegiate
Junior Javonte Waverly Javonte Waverly 6'3" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC – Guard
Waverly put on a show as the Pride got a 68-48 victory over North Edgecombe to continue their run to another state title game. He finished with a game-high 27 points along with 11 rebounds to lead the way in the backcourt. Lehigh was on hand at their Regional Finals game and they should be in attendance at the 1A State Final game for Waverly.
Senior Kalib Matthews Kalib Matthews 6'4" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2020 State NC – Guard
Mathews filled up the stat sheet in their win over North Edgecombe with nine points, eight assists and 12 rebounds. He does well to find ways to make an impact regardless of his point-total. He’ll look to bounce back against Winston-Salem Prep in the Final.
Junior Akhiris Holden Akhiris Holden 6'5" | SF Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC – Wing/Forward
Holden finished with nine points, 16 rebounds and three blocks as he made his presence known all game long in the East Region Final. So long as he can stay out of foul trouble, he’ll be a player that’ll make an impact in the paint on both ends.
Junior JaQuaveon Venable – Guard
Venable has come on strong in the team’s last few games, finishing in double-figures in scoring and making an impact on the glass. He finished with a double-double in their win over North Edgecombe with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. He’s another junior to watch in the backcourt.
