With graduation not too far away and college on the horizon, here’s a look at the top available Seniors in the bluegrass state. They are broken down by position group and in order by their spot in the PHKY rankings.
Point Guards
Amirion Joyce Amirion Joyce 6'1" | PG Paducah Tilghman | 2020 State KY , Bourbon County – The 10th region player of the year, Amirion had a breakout season after landing at Bourbon. Averaging 21 points and 4 rebounds per game, Joyce is almost unstoppable once he gets in the paint. The biggest weakness in his game is his perimeter shooting where he was only 27% for the season. As his game continues to stretch past the 3 point line, Amirion would be a steal for any college at this point.
Amari Taylor Amari Taylor 6'2" | PG Tates Creek | 2020 State KY , Tates Creek – Amari had a strong Senior campaign and a very solid career for the Commodores. His best basketball should be ahead of him as he becomes more of a point guard and less of a combo guard. A capable defender and good athlete, Taylor should be a steal for someone this spring unless he opts to go to prep school.
Tyren Moore Tyren Moore 5'11" | PG Male | 2020 State KY , Male – Once committed to Lincoln Memorial, Tyren finds himself back in the market for a school. Recently voted the 7th region player of the year, Moore is a scoring guard who has deep range and isn’t afraid of taking big shots. a 49% shooter from three, Moore is among the best shooters in Kentucky.
James Taylor James Taylor 5'10" | PG Pleasure Ridge Park | 2020 State KY , Pleasure Ridge Park – Taylor seems to have been playing high school for a decade now but his eligibility is up and he’s still in the market for a college home. A pass first floor general, James is strong and has a high IQ but there are concerns with his shooting after posting 37% from the field this season and 22% from three.
Jake Evans Jake Evans 6'1" | PG Male | 2020 State KY , Male – Evans is another floor general who looks to facilitate for others more than himself. He took a lesser role with a loaded Male squad so he didn’t put up big stats but his impact on the game can be seen in the game film of all of Male’s wins. With high academics, Evans could be a steal for a D3 school but is exploring some D1 walk-on opportunities.
Dallas Rufus Dallas Rufus 6'2" | PG Waggener | 2020 State KY , Waggener – Consistently overlooked when mentioning the top players in Louisville, Dallas is a multiple year starter for a Waggener team that has been among the best in the city for the last several seasons. Rufus can score or facilitate and should be getting more looks from schools needing a guard who can do a little bit of everything.
Nik Sorrell Nik Sorrell 6'0" | PG Glasgow | 2020 State KY , Glasgow – One of the best scoring point guards in the state, Sorrell has been a star for the Scotties the last several seasons and possibly the best player to come out of Glasgow since Brandon Stockton. 19 points and 6 rebounds per game and Nik did a lot of his scoring while being chased by the opposing team’s best defenders.
Grant Disken Grant Disken 6'0" | PG Covington Catholic | 2020 State KY , Covington Catholic – Of everyone on this list, Disken likely holds the most offers. Grant has had a great career for the Colonels and will be a solid NAIA or D2 player for the next 4 years.
Jaylan Green Jaylan Green 5'11" | PG Frederick Douglass | 2020 State KY , Frederick Douglass – His transfer from Henry Clay looks like a great move in hindsight and Green had a huge year for the Broncos as he helped the school to their first ever district Championship and regional tournament birth. A shifty guard who excels at getting in the paint, Jaylan has solid academics and could be a scholarship level player if he doesn’t wind up going Juco for at least a season.
Jabari Kyle Jabari Kyle 6'2" | PG Middlesboro | 2020 State KY , Middlesboro – Kyle had a slow start to the season but finished strong. Jabari is a shifty lead guard who can penetrate gaps and get in the paint and finish once he gets there. He’s not a confident perimeter shooter but he has shown he can make enough shots from outside to keep the defense honest. He could have opportunities to play football in college but could also have a future on the court if he chooses that route.
