Kamiakin made the three hour trip out to Tacoma this week, and deservingly so earned a first-round bye. However, coming from Kennewick Washington, the talent and competitiveness of their team have been undervalued. On the other side however is a hungry and as always talented Rainier Beach squad, that despite the name on their jerseys, has been overlooked for much of the season. This matchup brought out some of Washington’s best-kept secrets.
John Hart John Hart 6'3" | CG Rainier Beach | 2020 State WA 6’2 G
Hart is one of the most athletic and unstoppable scoring guards in the state and should be in the conversation for the best point guard in Washington. Against Kamiakan, Hart was unstoppable with the ball in his hands and had broken the ankles of practically the entire Kamiakin roster by halftime. He finished with 22 points and the win, a highly characteristic performance for the Senior guard who has all the tools to succeed at the next level.
Z’Maurion Williams 6’3 G
Seeing Williams for the first time, you can’t help but be absolutely in-awe at his bounce. Williams has the ability to essentially float whenever he wants, and he put this to use against a taller Kamiakan team. Williams rejected two shots out of nowhere, rising up from a help position to send two floaters back. In the clutch, Williams was an automatic bucket, as his bounce allowed him to get up and over whoever was in front of him. Williams finished with 15 points and was crucial to the win, this kid deserves to have his name known.
Kyson Rose Kyson Rose 6'8" | C Kamiakin | 2020 State WA 6’9 C
Rose is a textbook big man. On the glass, he is a force and an asset, defensively you can count on rose to get in anyone’s way and make scoring in the paint as difficult as possible. He has been a part of Kamiakin’s success all season long and did his part in the quarter-final matchup, putting up 15 points and most of which coming in the paint. Rose is a big, athletic center with huge upside and skills worthing watching.
Messiah Jones Messiah Jones 6'6" | SF Kamiakin | 2021 State WA 6’6 C
Jones deserves more notoriety for his role on an already underappreciated team. Jones has the ideal size and build of a power forward, and he knows how to play to those strengths. He bullied the undersized Rainier Beach in the paint and despite his sheer size and strength, he expanded his game offensively, knocking down mid-range jumpers off the dribble. Jones finished with 14 in the tightly contested loss. Jones, a 6’6 Junior has room to grow (both literally and figuratively) and should make his name known in the coming months.
Trey Arland Trey Arland 6'6" | SG Kamiakin | 2022 State WA 6’4 G
Arland is a tall lanky shooting guard and as a 6’5 sophomore who already is capable of 20 point outings, he is someone worth keeping track of. Arland is a highly consistent shooter capable of creating his own shots with a handle and driving ability that is consistently improving. Arland is committed his own growth and won’t shy away from big moments, as he put up 11 against Beach. There is no reason not to follow Arland’s Growth
