Eric Boone (John A Logan)
Boone has continued to see his stock soar throughout the season. The 6’2” combo guard was dynamic scoring from all three levels. Was comfortable letting it fly from three and got to the rack equally well with a burst winning in one on one situations. Has the strength to finish through opponents in traffic. Also displayed a passing feel with several dishes to players on the move. Even had one out of bounds pass off a defender and to himself for a bucket. Boone had 23 points.
Jay Scrubb (John A Logan)
Scrubb is the top prospect in all of junior college basketball this season. The 6’6” two guard is slated to attend Louisville. That is if he doesn’t opt for the NBA Draft as almost every team has been into see him at this point. It was a solid, but not spectacular game for the All-American. At 6’6” Scrubb has plus athleticism and a good frame. There are times he tries to rely too much on his raw athleticism. When it is rolling though it is really impressive. Struggled shooting the ball from distance in their quarterfinal win, but used his burst off the bounce with his strong left hand to drive past defenders for a pair of impressive dunks. Flashes creativity off the bounce. Defensively he was up and down with the effort, but showed glimpses of what he can do recovering and blocked a few shots. Went for 15 points.
Trace Young (John A Logan)
Young is a long and lanky face up four that is a transfer from Wyoming. When he is hitting his jump shot he is more engaged in the game. At times settles for it. We would like to see him more aggressive off the bounce as he is a plus athlete with length and burst. Finished with 10 points.
Jacob Thompson (Kaskaskia)
Thompson is listed at 6’8” 230 pounds. He has a quality build with broad shoulders and mobility as a pick and pop four. We were impressed with him in the preseason and in his last game at KC he displayed a lot of the intriguing tools that will make him a solid D2 prospect. Pick and pop four that stretches the floor. Knocked down an array of threes off the catch. Also brings toughness and grit inside. Thompson had 19 points.
La-Quiem Walker (Kaskaskia)
At 6’9” Walker has a strong base in the post with long arms. He is a bit stiff, but does a good job of rebounding in his area high pointing boards. Offensively garners deep post position and finishes pretty well. Can stretch it on occasion to beyond the arc. He had 9 points.
Marcus Garrett (Wabash Valley)
Garrett impressed the number of D1 coaches in attendance. The former Hillcrest High School standout was electric with his scoring pop. The 6’1” powerfully built guard drilled three after three. In total he made five of them. Plus shooter that can create his own shot. Also scored at the rim multiple times using his strength. More of a scoring point guard than a passer. He had 23 points.
Bobby Harvey (Wabash Valley)
Harvey is a 6’3” two guard that plays bigger with his length. Transferred from the D2 level and should see his hard work pay off in getting a low-major scholarship. The two guard knocked in a pair of threes showing smooth mechanics and elevation. Also got loose for a dunk. Plus athlete that has a lot of intriguing physical tools. Would like to see him be a bit more aggressive. Finished with 8 points.
Tony Burks (Wabash Valley)
Burks is a 6’2” combo guard that played both on and off the ball. Rangy athletic guard that makes plays off the bounce with his slick handles. Scored multiple times with reverse layups and euro steps.
Raekwon Drake (Wabash Valley)
Drake is a prospect we have seen a ton throughout his career. The former Orr standout is a 6’5” undersized four man, but he is an absolute freak show athlete. That was displayed late in the game with three transition dunks to close out the win. Hit a mid-range jumper, but didn’t show much else in terms of perimeter skill. Around the hoop he struggled to finish against bigger and longer post prospects. Tough defensively despite his size using his quickness and motor. Drake had 8 points.
Dante Combs (Lincoln Trail)
This 6’5” Indiana native has a really smooth offensive game. Silky smooth runner game which he drilled with regularity throughout the game. Showed he could create his own shot including a feathery pull up mid-range jumper. Good athlete and sound passer making solid reads in the half court. Went for 14 points.
Lamar Lillard (Lincoln Trail)
Lillard is a combo guard that is more of a scorer than passer. Pushes it with speed in transition and loves to attack downhill. Hit a three off the catch en route to 12 points.
Tad Kapek (Lincoln Trail)
Kapek showed some intriguing tools. Great height at 6’9” with a solid build and broad shoulders. Walls up on the defensive end making it difficult for opponents to score and blocks shots on occasion.
