Standouts
Zion Hanberry Zion Hanberry 6'0" | SG Highland School | 2020 State VA | 6’0” G | Highland School 2020
An available senior that doesn’t get the amount of love that he deserves, Hanberry came up big for Highland especially in the second half and was a big reason they were almost able to pull it out. The 6’0” guard plays with toughness and moxy and can flat out shoot the rock from deep. He hit four three-pointers in the game and finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.
Angelo Brizzi Angelo Brizzi 6'3" | PG Highland School | 2021 State #216 Nation VA | 6’3” PG | Highland School 2021
The battle between Norfolk Collegiate guard Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA and Brizzi was one of the most fun parts of the weekend. The 6’3” guard showed a ton of offensive ability with his ability to create for himself and others off the bounce, his deep range and he showed some toughness and grit on both ends of the floor and on the glass. The lefty finished with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists in their heartbreaking loss to Norfolk Collegiate and he had a number of college coaches talking about him.
Xzavier Long | 6’5” F | Middleburg 2021
Middleburg had a rough go of it as they got beaten pretty handedly by Blue Ridge in the semifinals on Friday, but Long came out ready to play and showed some great versatility as well. The 6’5” forward is a guy that can play inside-out, he’s athletic and skilled with the ball in his hands and he brings it on both ends as well. He finished with 10 points in the loss.
Jeremy Roach Jeremy Roach 6'2" | PG Paul VI | 2020 State #19 Nation VA | 6’1” PG | Paul VI 2020
” width=”300″ height=”225″ />
The Duke commit was huge for PVI in both games, but especially down the stretch in the championship game where he made winning plays and helped seal it when it got late too. The 6’1” guard is a dynamic athlete that doesn’t seem to have lost a step after his knee injury, and he showed a great skill set, toughness and a high IQ as well. In their semifinal win over Trinity Episcopal he finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and in their championship win over St. Stephen’s St. Agnes he finished with 19 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. He looks ready to contribute at the highest level now.
Will Paige Will Paige 5'9" | CG Paul VI | 2020 State VA | 5’9” PG | Paul VI 2020
The unsung hero for PVI over the weekend was Paige who came off the bench in both games to give them a big time boost. In their semifinal win against Trinity, the Panthers came out flat but Paige came in and hit three big shots to get them going and continued to make the right play throughout the game. In their championship win, he came off the bench to make a few shots early and was all over the place defensively. He was a huge contributor for them and a big reason they won the state championship.
Trevor Keels Trevor Keels 6'4" | SG Paul VI | 2021 State #18 Nation VA | 6’4” G | Paul VI 2021
The nationally ranked guard has had a terrific season and put a huge exclamation point on it by leading the team in scoring in both wins this weekend. The stocky 6’4” guard has a mix of strength and skill that allows him to score from all three levels, and he has a knack for the basketball and making the right play on both end of the floor. What’s crazy is how effortless he makes it look and how complete of a player he has become. He was extremely consistent as in both games he scored 22 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, had 2 assists and had a steal and took a charge as well. What are that odds on that?
Jack Jensen | 6’8” PF | Paul VI 2021
The other unsung hero for PVI this weekend was Jensen who came up huge off the bench for them in the championship game. With St. Stephen’s St. Agnes having their way in the paint, Jensen came in and gave them a huge presence on both ends, finishing off duck ins and on the offensive glass and providing a presence on the defensive end. He finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 4 blocks in the win.
Doug McDaniel | 5’9” PG | Paul VI 2022
Next up in a long line of talented point guards at PVI, McDaniel impresses me a little bit more every time that I see him. He’s a lightning quick guard with great vision and passing ability and he’s a pesky defender who sets the tone on both ends. In their semifinal win he finished with 12 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds and he finished with 10 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the championship game.
