Omaha Biliew, Dowling Catholic
Stats: 6.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, 40.7 FG%
Omaha BiliewBiliew was thrown into the fire right away on a veteran team. It was a shaky start, but he looked more comfortable as the season went on, and showed his potential. Biliew’s main role this year was as the primary defender. His length and athleticism disrupted a lot of opponents. Biliew’s offensive game is coming around, and when that gets on a similar level as his defense, he’s a potential five-star prospect. Iowa has offered early here.
Pryce Sandfort, Waukee
Stats: 9.3 points, 2.2 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 49.4 FG%, 45.8 3PT%, 81.8 FT%
Like Biliew, Sandfort was asked to play a big role right away as a freshman for one of the top teams in the state. With his brother, Payton, and Tucker DeVries Tucker DeVries 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State #123 Nation IA taking most of the shots, Pryce was a little hesitant at the beginning of the season. As the year progressed, he looked more comfortable, and started to show what he can do. Pryce has grown a couple of inches since the start of the season and is standing at about 6-foot-4 right now. There’s still room to grow. Pryce is a deadeye shooter that can take it to the basket, too. He’s also a strong defender and plays beyond his years. His four free throws in the final minute of the 4A state semifinal to hold of Centennial was a sign of the growth and maturity he’s had this year. He could blow up this summer with Kingdom Hoops.
Elijah Vos, Des Moines Hoover
Stats: 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 40.0 FG%, 35 3PT%
The 6-foot-5 Vos is another potential D1 prospect in the 2023 class. Vos is a crafty player who has a good feel for the game. He’s a lengthy wing who can score on all three levels, and is a sneaky good athlete. He’s also receiving interest from Iowa. His size allows him to be a mismatch on the perimeter while he can also use it downlow with his post-game.
Chase Henderson, Des Moines Hoover
Stats: 17.2 points, 4.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 36 FG%, 37 3PT%
The freshman guard was given the keys to handle a lot of the scoring load as well as running the offense. The 5-foot-9 Henderson is cat-quick with the ball on a string. He plays bigger than his height, and is electric with the ball in his hands. It’ll be fun to watch him and Vos together for the next three years.
Colby Collison, Bondurant-Farrar
Stats: 13.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 49.8 FG%, 38.1 FG%
Collison was Bondurant’s most consistent player all year. The freshman is a strong player that can stroke it from deep but also put the ball on the floor and score off the bounce. Collison has a solid frame for his age, and solid athleticism. Will be a name to know in 2023.
