“At the end of the day, you’ve got kids in here (the Wahawk lockerroom) and you robbed them,” said Berinobis. “Everybody in this building knows it, including the North Scott fans.
“Common sense would tell you that on the catch, out away from the basket, he turns and shoots … it’s not humanly possible. I don’t want to discredit them, but that shot shouldn’t count and everybody knows it.”
Ty Anderson is a matchup nightmare
The UNI recruit was a tough cover for Waterloo West. Anderson, listed at 6-foot-7, is smooth and does a slew of things well on the court for the Lancers. Anderson plays primarily in the paint for North Scott. He’s crafty with his moves and has an advantage as a lefty.
He’s very versatile, and will be able to play multiple spots at the next level. The key for him is to stay out of foul trouble. Anderson picked up his fourth foul late in the 4th quarter on Tuesday, and it became a problem for the Lancers. The offense runs through him, and he’s so effective with his scoring and playmaking ability. He can also step out and make the 3 (25-of-50 on the year) if need be.
Anderson will be one of the top players at Wells Fargo next week in Class 4A.
Sam Kilburg is a gamer
The North Scott senior guard puts up impressive numbers, but his importance goes way beyond the stat sheet.
As one North Scott resident told me, “Kilburg will do ANYTHING to get his team the win.” Kilburg is a gritty, solid point guard who doesn’t often make mistakes. He’s tough on both ends of the floor, and is super poised in pressure situations.
North Scott plays a half-court oriented game, and Kilburg is the perfect fit for that tempo. He doesn’t get rattled, and plays within himself.
Experienced guards win in March.
Caleb Haag is a good get for Upper Iowa
Haag is not Waterloo West’s leading scorer, but he may be one of their most complete players.
Haag is built like a linebacker, and plays like one. He did a good job of covering Anderson throughout the game, and making life tough for him and making him earn every touch.
Haag had a couple of plays that showed off his athleticism, too, and that was encouraging to watch. If Haag can develop a consistent outside shot due to his height, he could be a starter for the Peacocks down the line.
He does a lot of things well on both sides of the floor.
Intriguing Prospect: Trent Allard (2020)
The 6-foot-8 post had two big dunks in the first quarter to get the North Scott team and fans pumped up.
Allard is known for his leaping ability as he’s getting college looks for track and the high jump. Allard is a springy, athletic with a lot of upside. He’ll continue both his track and basketball career at Wartburg.
