Division I started off giving us one really great game and one blowout. Lakota East outlasted Beavercreek 33-32, while Moeller destroyed Springboro 65-25. Below I take a look at the 5 prospects in the game that impressed me most. I will highlight performers from Centerville/Lakota West and LaSalle/St. Xavier later.
Yousef Saleh Yousef Saleh 6'0" | PG Beavercreek | 2020 State OH (2020) Beavercreek- The senior point guard played his heart out in what ended up being his final high school game of his career. The senior point guard handled the ball so well in a half court setting, not succumbing to pressure from a very talented and defensively sound Lakota East team. He found the rim time and time again with his speed and quickness but struggled finishing with his layups. His floater in the paint was spot on and he did connect on some of those shots.
Alex Mangold Alex Mangold 6'7" | PF Lakota East | 2020 State OH (2020) Lakota East- The interior big man was a strong defensive presence for the Thunderhawks , showing he can guard multiple levels. His ability to defend both the paint and the perimeter is impressive and hard to match. The hustle and grit he has was impressive as I watched him several times dive after loose balls and involve himself in different ways. He was in foul trouble part of the 2nd half, but his presence on the floor is unmatched.
Nate Johnson Nate Johnson 6'3" | PG Lakota East | 2021 State OH (2021) Lakota East- Johnson struggled after the 1st quarter as Beavercreek adjusted to his athleticism and defended him with heavy help side presence. Even with this, Nate had a breakaway dunk and still showed why he’s one of the top guards in Ohio. Bouncy and controlling the ball and his body at a high level, Johnson was unphased by physical Beavercreek defenders and exploded to the rim numerous times.
Will McCracken Will McCracken 6'4" | SG Hilton Head Island | 2021 State SC (2021) Moeller- Absolute defensive nightmare. Combined his size and length to make life difficult for Springboro’s backcourt to get anything going. Moved his feet well laterally and shifted his hips turning the defenders. High motor and got a few 2nd chance scoring opportunities with his drive and overall athleticism.
Logan Duncomb Logan Duncomb 6'9" | C Moeller | 2021 State #74 Nation OH (2021) Moeller- Duncomb showed why he is one of the top 3 prospects in Ohio’s 2021 class. He rebounded the basketball at an extremely high level, literally jumping over Springboro defenders that could not box him out. When he received post entry passes, he had an arsenal of post moves with his back to the basket. Too lengthy for Springboro to defend.
