The point guard position is viewed as the most important on the floor and there are plenty of floor generals near the top of the rankings. After the 2019-2020 season, here are some of the top point guards in the Class of 2021.
Jaylen Murray Jaylen Murray 6'0" | PG Putnam Science | 2021 State NY | Putnam Science
Murray is one of New York’s top players in the Class of 2021. He is an undersized guard but uses his speed and agility to make up for it. Murray is an elite shooter and strong rebounder for his size. Murray is the type of player that is impossible to guard in the open floor and you must give him some room on the perimeter. Murray has an offer from Texas Tech and will pile up some more during his senior season.
Khalil Whitney | Boys & Girls
If you had to compare Whitney to an NBA player, it would be Russell Westbrook. Whitney is a lightning quick guard with the ball in his hands. He thrives at getting to the basket and setting up his teammates. Whitney is a strong rebounder and one of the top passers in the state. Whitney is a tough player to stop on a fast break and his basketball IQ takes over most of the time.
Malichi Smith | St. Raymond’s
Smith has a lot of interest from schools. He has offers from Dayton, Iona, UMass, Manhattan, St. Peter’s, and Stony Brook. This is not surprising when looking at him play. He is a 6’1 point guard who can light it up from deep. Smith is an elite shooter who can defend and score. This will get him a lot of offers from big time schools.
Jaquan Carlos Jaquan Carlos 5'11" | PG Jefferson | 2021 State #180 Nation NY | Thomas Jefferson
Carlos has offers from NC State and Cincinnati already. He is a guard who always has his head up looking to make a play. This is not limited to one skill set. Carlos is a shooter from deep or mid-range, a passer no matter the position on the floor, or a driver. He has great ball handling skills and is shifty when going to the basket.
Sterling Jones Sterling Jones 5'10" | PG Christ The King | 2021 State NY | Christ the King
Jones is not the fastest player that you will see but he is always under complete control. Having control of your body and the ball is something that does not come easily to some players but Jones has that ability. He thrives as a driver where he has the chance to score at the rim or dish out to the wing.
