Blessed with terrific size for a guard, Chapman plays down hill and is a high motor type player, bringing energy and hustle to the court. He can shoot from the outside, but is at his best handling the ball, attacking the basket and getting out in transition. The junior guard went for 21 points on 7 for 14 from the field and added eight rebounds and a pair of assists while playing all 32 minutes in a 55-48 win over Free State. Chapman recently picked up his first NCAA Division I offer from UMKC.
Wal’Zel Evans, 6’0, G, 2020, JC Harmon
Evans is a talented athlete who can handle the ball, create offense off the bounce and brings a tough minded attitude to the court at the defensive end. He is a terrific finisher in the lane, able to get to the basket and finish tough changes through traffic. Evans scored 22 points in 31 minutes in a hard fought 50-43 loss to Olathe South.

One of the state’s top all-around prospects in the 2021 class, Chapmen went for a game-high 26 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field while adding six boards, four assists and three steals. He has a big frame, good size at 6’5, and a well-rounded skill set for an off guard. He is at his best slashing to the basket and finishing at the rim, but is also able to stick pull-up jumpers from the perimeter.

Mayo has established himself as one of the state’s top all-around players, blessed with good athleticism, size and a well-rounded skill set. He has the ability to score at all three levels, and is armed with a quick shooting release, deep range beyond the arc and an array of runners and floaters that he uses to score in the lane over bigger defenders. While he can create his own offense, Mayo is an unselfish player who works within a team concept. In the Lions’ 72-66 loss to Blue Valley North at the Class 6A quarterfinals, Mayo scored 28 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. He went 10 for 11 at the free throw line. He reports several NCAA Division I offers, including South Dakota State, Northern Colorado, North Alabama and Central Arkansas.

Also a big time football prospect, Taylor is a rising prospect on the hardwood in the 2021 class. Blessed with terrific size, athleticism and an emerging skill set, Taylor went for 20 points on 8 for 9 shooting off the bench for BVN in a 72-66 win over Lawrence. He was 2 for 3 from 3-point range, 2 for 3 from the 3-point line in 22 minutes. He has some good bounce off the floor, able to play above the rim at both ends of the floor, scores easy baskets in the paint, but can also step out and handle the ball on the perimeter and stretch the floor with a smooth outside shooting touch. He will be a player to watch in the upcoming months.
