Rose Hill defeated Parsons in the opening game (61-57); Augusta followed with a win over Ottawa (53-41); Piper defeated Buhler (71-52); and Bishop Miege won over Andale (65-61).
The Kansas High School Activities Association announced on Thursday the remaining state tournament games will not be played.
Gabriel Eskina, 6’3, F, 2020, Piper
Eskina is a unique inside-out forward who can post up, rebound or step out to the perimeter. He plays much bigger than his listed 6’3 height would suggest and brings a bruising strength to the floor. He is comfortable on the perimeter, can knock down open 3-pointers, showed the ability to run the pick-and-roll and was terrific finishing chances around the basket this season. Eskina was an underrated performer this season for Piper.
Cole Landers Cole Landers 6'1" | CG Andale | 2020 State KS , 6’2, G, 2020, Andale
A tough defensive player and all-around guard, Landers is terrific in the open court, finishes chances in transition and can knock down open shots. Landers can handle the ball a little and has good size for a guard at 6’2, but is best known for his all-around, team-first play. He is a good screener, works hard off the ball and is good cutting away from the ball.
Reis Moore, 6’4, F, 2020, Ottawa
Moore is a tough, hard-nosed forward who plays bigger than his listed 6’4 height would suggest. He is capable of posting up and scoring the paint and is terrific playing high-low basketball with fellow 2020 forward Kobe Johnson. Moore can defend all over the floor with good athleticism and showed the ability to make smart, on-time passes.
Dilyn Taylor-Cantu, 6’2, G, 2021, Piper
Taylor-Cantu was an underrated performer this season for Piper, showing the ability to handle the point guard duties. He has good size at 6’2, can see over the defense and makes smart, on-time passes. He has good instincts at the defensive end of the court and showed he can knock down open outside shots.
Myles Thompson Myles Thompson 6'7" | SF Hutchinson | 2021 State KS , 6’7, F, 2021, Buhler
Thompson is an inside-out left handed forward who is equally comfortable on the perimeter as he is in the paint. Thompson can knock down open 3-pointers and has good range out beyond the arc, and can also handle the ball a little and create offense for himself. Thompson also showed the ability to post up, get big in the paint and works hard on the glass.
