Rose Hill defeated Parsons in the opening game (61-57); Augusta followed with a win over Ottawa (53-41); Piper defeated Buhler (71-52); and Bishop Miege won over Andale (65-61).
The Kansas High School Activities Association announced on Thursday the remaining state tournament games will not be played.
Max Alexander Max Alexander 6'0" | PG Next Level Prep | 2022 KS , 5’11, PG, 2021, Buhler
Alexander put together a strong performance on Thursday in a quarterfinal loss to Kansas City Piper, finishing with 23 points and showing why he is among the top point guards in Kansas’ 2021 class. He showed terrific quickness off the bounce and the ability to create his own shot and scored at all three levels, including long 3-pointers, floaters in the lane and tough pull-up jumpers.
Tamar Bates Tamar Bates 6'4" | SG KC Piper | 2021 #106 Nation KS , 6’4, G, 2021, Piper
Bates is a smooth left handed guard with size, length and an all-around game. He went for 21 points on Thursday and helped Piper pull away from Buhler for a 71-52 quarterfinal win. Bates is comfortable at either guard spot, can shoot from beyond the 3-point arc off the bounce, gets to the basket and finishes chances in the lane with ease. He shows good leadership on the court and is willing passer who can find an open teammate. He holds a host of high major offers, including Kansas, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, Mizzou, Kansas State, Creighton, St. Louis, Wichita State, Abilene Christian and Missouri State.
Kobe Campbell Kobe Campbell 6'2" | CG Rose Hill | 2020 State KS , 6’3, G, 2020, Rose Hill
Also a standout football player, Campbell put together a huge performance as Rose Hill rebounded from a 12-point first-half deficit on Thursday to defeat Parsons 61-57. A well-rounded guard who can handle the ball, score at all three levels and plays the game with pace, Campbell poured in 32 points in the win. He has drawn offers to play football at Emporia State and Fort Hays, and from Nebraska Wesleyan and Kansas Wesleyan to play basketball.
Easton Hunter Easton Hunter 6'3" | CG Andale | 2020 State KS , 6’2, G, 2020, Andale
Hunter had it all working through the early stages of an upset bid on Thursday as he lit up the scoreboard in the first half, scoring 21 points and finished with 26 on 9 of 11 shooting. A strong guard with good size who can handle the ball get to the basket off the bounce and is a standout perimeter shooter, Hunter was a standout on the summer circuit with NLHA. He has drawn offers from Southwestern College, Nebraska Wesleyan, Bethel College, Concordia, Kansas Wesleyan, McPherson, University of Dallas and is drawing interest from several others.
Mark Mitchell Mark Mitchell 6'7" | SF Sunrise | 2022 State #8 Nation KS , 6’8, G/F, 2022, Bishop Miege
One of the state’s top college basketball prospects in any class, Mitchell is capable of physically overwhelming opponents with his size, athleticism and strength. Mix in a well-rounded skill set, and Mitchell can be a nightmare match-up for most teams. On Thursday, he showed the ability to attack the basket off the bounce, getting past defenders on the perimeter and finding a path to the basket. He has a good feel for stepping around would-be defenders setting up in the paint and is adept at avoiding charges and finishing easy chances. He has an emerging outside shooting stroke and is comfortable handling the ball and helping set up an offense on the perimeter.
