Dublin Gaels (24-6) defeated the Bellarmine Bell (23-5) 73-69
The Bells got off to a good start on the road. Unsigned Sr 6’6 Ian Elam hit a 3, then made a layup for 2. Dublin’s Anthony Roy got Dublin on the board with a 3. The Bells seem to be playing some kind of matchup zone making it difficult for Dublin’s quickness to get good penetration. Bells led after one 12-3. Dublin’s top player unsigned Sr 6’4 Anthony Roy picked up two fouls had to sit most of the 2nd qtr. The Gaels got good production from 5’11 Sr Nick Costello, he had 13 first half points three 3’s. Dublin’s bench played a key roll by keeping the game close. Halftime score 38-30 Bells. The start of the 3rd saw Roy unleash his talents, he hit back to back 3’s and had several nice moves going to the rim. Roy’s play in the 3rd qtr shifted the flow of the game into Dublin’s favor. End of 3 Gaels up 51-48. A 16-0 run in the 3rd, Roy had 8 of them. Malik Jackson unsigned Sr 6’4 had an outstanding game with 6 off rebs, 14 total and 8 points.He started the 4th ripping down a rebound and kicking it out to Roy for another 3. The Bells top player unsigned Sr 6’3 Quinn Denker answered with a 3 of his own. In the end it was a well played game with Dublin securing the victory, and ending Bellarmine’s season. 73-69. Dublin will Travel to Sacramento to play #1 seed Sheldon on Saturday.
Standouts from this game
Anthony Roy 6’4 Sr guard. Roy’s minutes were limited in the 1st half, 3 pts. 2 fouls. He exploded for 19 points in the 2nd half to lead the Gaels to victory.
Malik Jackson 6’4 Sr forward turned in the best overall performance with his defense and rebounding 8 pts, 14 rebounds. He’s 6’4 Bell’s front line was Kiachian 6’9 and Elam 6’6.
Devon Jackson 6’1 Sr guard. The athleticism of Jackson kept the Bells vulnerable to the drive all game. He attacked, slashed, got out on the wings in transition.11 pts, 4 rebs.
Nick Costello 5’11 Sr. He kept Dublin in the game with his performance in the first half. Three 3’s, 13pts. He finished with 18 pts and knocked down a 3 in the third qtr to give Dublin a lead.
Dublin’s Bench: When you get to this point in the season, you have to get good play from your bench. Dublin’s bench could be the reason why they won. The play of Caleb Oden 6’4 Jr. TJ Meagher 6’2 Jr. Elijah Alonso 6’2 Sr, It can’t go unnoticed that these three made key plays, and contributed to the teams win in this game.
The Bells got top players
Quinn Denker 6’3 Sr. He had an MVP type season scored 20 pts
Ian Elam 6’6 Sr. He really got it going the 2nd half of the season. He’s a good inside/out player. He can shoot the 3. 16pts, 4 rebs.
Kyle Lewis 6’4 Sr. The athletic Lewis has alway been a good defender. In the later half of the season his offensive game ticked up. He had 14 pts. A good game for Lewis
Ryan Kiachian 6’9 2021. Will probably be one of the top ranked F/C in NorCal, if he produces on the aau circuit as expected finished with 12 pts. 5 rebs.
