There are guys who can score in the Centennial League, and coincidentally, most of the best ones will be back next year.
Here are some of the Centennial League’s top scorers:
Charles Snyder Charles Snyder 6'5" | PF Emporia | 2021 State KS , junior, Emporia:
Snyder’s stats speak for themselves. He averaged 16.4 points per contest as a sophomore en route to all-league honors. As a junior, he was one of the top scorers in Northeast Kansas, putting up 21.1 per game, tops in the league. At 6-foot-5 and versatile, he’s a handful for anyone to guard.
Joe Berry Joe Berry 6'4" | CG Washburn Rural | 2021 State KS , junior, Washburn Rural:
Berry finished with a 17.4 scoring average, but he scored 20 or more in six of his first seven games. That after averaging 13 a game as a sophomore on one of the best teams in the state. As a junior, Berry had to do it all, including find ways to score when the entire defense was focused on his. At 6-foot-2, he has skills to play the perimeter, but was forced to score in the lane.
Elijah Brooks, sophomore, Topeka West:
Brooks demonstrates how you can score a ton without being a great outside shooter. He scored 10.5 points a game as a freshman and upped that 17.5 as a sophomore. Brooks is 6-foot-2 and has a mature muscularity. He can power his way through the lane, around one-on-one defenders, and finish with authority.
Juan’Tario Roberts, sophomore, Highland Park:
Like Brooks, Roberts is a master of breaking down defenders and getting to the goal. He’s also fast enough to create points off the break. He can score from deep, but that’s not where most of his points come from. He averaged 14.9 as a sophomore, after putting up 11.6 as a freshman. He might be the most classic example of a “scorer” in the league, but he shared a lot of the Scots’ production with CJ Powell.
CJ Powell, junior, Highland Park:
Sure, the junior gets quite a few points just because he’s 6-foot-7. But while he’s a dominant inside presence, Powell is really good on the perimeter and scores his share from beyond the arc. He averaged 14.2 points as a sophomore when the Scots went just 3-18. He raised his output to 16.8, leading the Scots to a 15-8 mark.
Da’Vonshai Harden, senior, Topeka High:
His decision making and consistency were often an issue, but few players had the whole package quite like Harden. Harden could shoot it from anywhere, and when he decided to go to the hole, there were few guards around to handle his physical frame. He was also an elite rebounder from the guard position, creating a lot of opportunities for putbacks. Harden averaged 12.8 points as a junior and 12.7 as a senior.
