Breakout Prospects to watch in the 2022 Class
The 2022 class is starting to take shape in North Carolina. Here’s a look at some breakout prospects to keep an eye on this spring/summer.
No. 22 Evan Smith Evan Smith 6'4" | PG Ardrey Kell | 2022 State NC – Ardrey Kell
Smith had a productive season at the point guard spot for Ardrey Kell, putting up 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He’s a playmaker and scorer that’ll be one to keep an eye on with Team United this spring/summer.
No. 31 Comeh Emuobor Comeh Emuobor 6'4" | CG Brewster Academy | 2023 State #198 Nation NC – Enloe
Emoubor is just scratching the surface as a two-way threat on the hardwood with his length and athleticism. He’s due for a breakout spring/summer after getting solid experience on the varsity level with Enloe.
No. 32 Mikhail Pocknett Mikhail Pocknett 6'6" | PF New Hanover | 2022 State NC – Ashley
Pocknett is a 6-foot-4 versatile prospect that can go out and get a double-double with ease. He appeared with Ashley High this past season, averaging 15.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks per contest. He’ll be one to watch this spring/summer on the AAU circuit with Team Felton.
No. 53 Trey Fields Trey Fields 6'5" | SF Cleveland | 2022 State NC – Cleveland
Fields is really starting to come along as a slasher and rim-runner without the ball in his hands. He’s got great speed and athleticism at his size of 6-foot-6 and is a versatile threat on the floor. As he learns to make an impact on defense, he’ll be one to keep an eye on.
No. 59 Collin Tanner Collin Tanner 6'6" | SF Combine Academy | 2023 State NC – South Granville
Tanner came on strong as the Sixth Man for a South Granville squad that went 30-1 in 2019-20 and made the East Region Final. He’s a sharpshooter on the perimeter and rebounder in the paint that’s slowly carving out a role for himself.
No. 61 Sam Cogan Sam Cogan 6'3" | SG Northside Christian | 2022 State NC – Lincoln Charter
Cogan is quite the combo guard with his ability to get to the paint and finish as well as rebound the basketball. He’s a 6-foot-3 athletic prospect that produced 18.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 2.8 apg this past season for Lincoln Charter. He’ll be a player to keep an eye on this spring/summer with Team Charlotte .
No. 72 Moses Tufts Moses Tufts 6'4" | CG South Central | 2022 State NC – South Central
Tufts was a new addition to the South Central lineup but get familiar with his name now. He put up 9.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 1.2 bpg in the rotation as a sophomore this past season. He’ll run with Team Trezz this spring/summer on the AAU circuit.
No. 79 Justin Monden Justin Monden 5'10" | PG Word of God | 2023 State NC – Heritage
Monden got some playing time in the rotation in the backcourt for the Huskies this season and he’s looking prime to breakout at the point guard spot as a two-way threat. He’s listed at just 5-foot-8 but he plays big with his ability to defend the basketball and make plays off the dribble.
