Chris Burg – 2020 – PG – Arrowhead
Burg chipped in with 14 points in Thursday’s loss. While Arrowhead got off to a slow start, Burg, being a senior, showed the moment wasn’t too big for him for most the game. With Carter Gilmore Carter Gilmore 6'7" | SF Arrowhead | 2020 State #250 Nation WI slowed early, Burg stepped up and was able to get things started offensively. A skilled, high-IQ guard who can help orchestrate the flow of the game, Burg was a big reason why the Warhawks won the Classic Eight and went 23-2 after losing their starting point guard from last season.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. Patrick Baldwin Jr. 6'9" | SF Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State #2 Nation WI – 2021 – W – Sussex Hamilton
Baldwin got off to a great start and scored 15 of his 26 points in the first half alone. Right off the bat, Baldwin showed by he’s a potential lottery pick, making some 3’s look way too easy. Baldwin cooled off in the second half, but when Arrowhead cut a 24-point lead down to seven, the five-star wing showed up when his team needed him the most — making an outstanding chase down block followed by two strong drives to the rim to keep Hamilton in the driver’s seat. Baldwin is tremendously unselfish for being such a high caliber prospect. At 6-foot-9 and extremely skilled, when he wants to take a shot, there’s really nothing defenders can do other than hope he misses.
Carter Gilmore Carter Gilmore 6'7" | SF Arrowhead | 2020 State #250 Nation WI – 2020 – F – Arrowhead
Hamilton had a great game plan, sending late double teams his way and not allowing the Wisconsin commit to get to the rim. Gilmore went into the half with just four points. The second half was a different story. Gilmore scored 21 of his 25 after halftime, opening up his offense by knocking down difficult perimeter shots. The Chargers took away a lot of Gilmore’s assist opportunities and the 6-foot-8 forward opted to take over with his scoring ability. While his efforts came up short, Gilmore hit three consecutive triples and had two steals that led to scores during a huge surge to bring Arrowhead back from the dead.
J.T. Hoytink J.T. Hoytink 6'0" | PG Sussex Hamilton | 2020 State WI – 2020 – G – Sussex Hamilton
He’s not at the top of probably any opposing team’s scouting report, but Hoytink was one of the bigger x-factors in the state this season. A blue collar, hard-nosed guard that does the dirty work and makes winning plays, Hoytink came up with 15 points on Thursday. He’s not a pure point point guard, but handles those duties, is tough with the ball, and is difficult to keep from getting to the basket when he lowers a shoulder. While he was a liability and someone defenders used to slack off on earlier in his career, Hoytink has worked extremely hard on his skills over the years and has not only become a dependable scorer on that end of the floor, but someone who shows up and makes plays in big spots.
Carson Smith Carson Smith 6'1" | CG Sussex Hamilton | 2020 State WI – 2020 – SG – Sussex Hamilton
Smith blew the game open with three consecutive triples in the first half as Hamilton went into the locker room leading by 22 points. The Northern Michigan commit scored all 14 of his points in the opening period. Smith fed off some great ball movement, making Arrowhead pay for going to a zone defense. One of the state’s top shooters, Smith is absolutely deadly when he’s in rhtym. An outstanding catch-and-shoot threat, Smith always has the green light.
