Choosing a total of 10 players to make up the first and second teams was no easy task. Our staff deliberated for a significant amount of time before finally coming up with the names below. Second TEAM
G – Jordan Reed Jordan Reed 6'5" | CG Manual | 2022 State CO – Manual
Reed was already a 1x champion in his freshman season and had a minimal role on that championship squad. Still, in his sophomore season, he was an essential factor, and his play helped them get into a spot at defending the title. Reed averaged 14.9 points and 5.0 assists, and that was with trying to find his role and fit on the team for the start of the season. When he finally found his role, it was lights out as his confidence started to grow and with that, buckets. Reed gets to the lane and finishes with ease. He plays well off of the ball and also is a knockdown shooter with range. Reed can create on his own or find the open spot in the defense. He is an excellent ball-handler that uses all of his 6’2 frame to get to the rim and finish with either hand. He is a player to know, and next year he will have to step his game up just a bit. No way that you start a sophomore list without him.
G – Elijah Knudsen Elijah Knudsen 5'10" | CG Mead | 2022 State CO – Mead
Knudsen is a player that started the season scorching hot. He knocked down open shots, he moves without the ball, creates off of the dribble, and also has unlimited range. Knudsen is one of the top shooters in the class that takes the game seriously and makes minimal mistakes. Once opposing teams realized how much he meant to the Mead offense, they started face-guarding Knudsen and making him create in other ways. What he did was swing the ball, and get his teammates involved, make plays off of the ball, and play sound defense. He is a hard worker that has a high basketball IQ. He averaged 11.6 points a game as he hit 68 3-pointers on the year. He altered games in ways other than just scoring, but if you need a marksman from deep, here’s your guy. Knudsen had a solid year on a team that won 25 straight games.
G – Jeremiah Coleman Jeremiah Coleman 6'2" | PG Colorado Prep | 2023 CO – Chaparral
Coleman is a player that first got on our radars at the Centennial Grandstand, and from there took over. He found his role on one of the better teams in the state and showed out in big games. No matter who it was that Coleman was up against, he showed off his high IQ and controlled the pace in every game. You would think with sharing the backcourt with a player like Sanders, he would defer to him in many cases, but Coleman displayed his extreme confidence and mixed it with the ability to stand out. Coleman took over point guard duties, and although he saw plenty of different looks played with poise and ran the team. He put up 10.7 points and also threw just under three assists a game. What stood out for me was his willingness and ability to defend. In Chaparral’s double-overtime win in the playoffs, it was Coleman that sealed the win with steals in the open court to change the outcome of the game. The future is bright for Jeremiah wherever it is he plays next season.
G – Jaeton Hackley Jaeton Hackley 5'11" | PG Douglas County | 2022 State CO – Douglas County
Hackley is the player that not many have heard about but one glimpse of his game, and it is easy to see why this guard was able to have a solid season. Hackley was the best player and leading scorer for Douglas County this season as he was named as a 1st team All- Continental league member. Hackley is a stable change of pace guard that knows what to do in the open court. He is a downhill runner that can break a defender down off of the dribble and also dishes and rebounds from the lead guard spot as well. This season Hackley averaged 14.2 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds a game as well. He got two steals a game, and what separates Hackley is he shows up in big games. He does not back down to top players and scores in many ways. Solid season where he got on our radars, and now that he is there, I expect him to rise up our rankings list.
F – Tayt Chacon Tayt Chacon 6'4" | PF University | 2022 State CO – University
From a statistical standpoint, there were not many players in the class that had quite the season that Chacon was able to have. Chacon led University to a 17-7 record and even an appearance in the 3A top-10 at one point as the 6’5 wing had his way with opposing teams. Chacon averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds a game as he used his athletic build to overpower opponents and finish at the rim. Chacon has excellent upside and started to come into his own as the season progressed. Chacon is a three-level scorer that gets to his spots and delivers. He appears a bit raw on the court but has a high ceiling, and with a summer of working on his game, I feel that he will come into next season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and ready to build on a strong season. Chacon is a player that has all of the intangibles to be a standout player in the class, and that is a solid starting point for him. Stellar season.
