Choosing a total of 10 players to make up the first and second teams was no easy task. Our staff deliberated for a significant amount of time before finally coming up with the names below. Stay tuned for much more postseason coverage right here at Prep Hoops Colorado.
Second TEAM
G – Quentin Rock – Smoky Hill
Rock is one of the state’s ultimate competitors, and he is a guard that plays with a chip on his shoulder. He is a consistent high IQ guard that is loaded with experience as a four-year starter that controls the pace, runs the offense, and gets the best out of his teammates. Rock took on the role of a scorer in his senior season as he led arguably the most high-octane offense in the state. Rock was the team’s leading scorer as he put up a career-high 20.8 points a game, and he also dished out 5.0 assists a game as well. Rock scored 1,336 points in his career while being the team’s top option, and with the game on the line, there were not much better. He answered the bell every single time as he is a reliable option in the clutch. Rock will be heading to Fort Hays State to continue his playing career, and I am expecting much of the same.
G – Kobe Sanders Kobe Sanders 5'11" | CG Chaparral | 2020 State #427 Nation CO – Chaparral
Sanders is a proven winner with an exemplary resume. The Continental League Co-Player of the Year has been the top guard in the class since his freshman season and has not let up in that time. He has progressed in each season and, in his senior season, saw it all come together as he put up his best numbers to date. Sanders averaged 20.2 points and also had a career-high 4.5 assists a game. Sanders is one of the state’s best iso scorers and played exceptionally well off of the ball this season. He was the team’s best player and vocal leader who, time after time, stepped up to the challenge and showed why he is regarded as the top guard. The good thing about Sanders is we won’t have to go too far to see the notorious hesitation pull-up that many knew was coming but still could not stop as he is not going too far to play as Metro State luckily locked him in for next season.
G – Zion Ruckard Zion Ruckard 5'9" | PG Eaglecrest | 2020 State CO – Eaglecrest
The state’s most improved player award was locked up early on, and he never turned it off as Ruckard went from Centennial league honorable mention in his junior season to a unanimous 1st team decision in his final year. Ruckard progressed in EVERY single category from his junior to senior season as he put up 17.3 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.8 rebounds a game, and there was not a guard that I would rather have with the game on the line than Ruckard. Ruckard is a speedy guard that finishes with either hand while also taking care of the ball as well. He shoots the ball well, gets others involved and gives the team a sense of calm that not many guards were able to and the best part is as great of a basketball player that he is, he is an even better individual. This student council member has a 4.3 GPA and is a leader that gets the most out of his teammates. He should be making his decision in the coming days, and whatever school that lands him is getting a high upside guard to build around.
F – Nahsyah Bolar Nahsyah Bolar 6'7" | SF Northfield | 2020 State CO – Northfield
Bolar was one of the surprise standouts on the entire season. After a decent junior campaign, Bolar put the team on his back and led the Nighthawks to victory after victory and had his team in the Final 4 before the season came to an abrupt ending with a chance to bring the school their first state championship. All season long, Bolar was able to exploit smaller guys on the block as he is a 6’7 glass cleaner that put up 18.2 points and 11.4 rebounds a game. This double-double machine was one of the best bigs in all of 4A this season and had the numbers to back him up as he sneaks onto the All Senior 2nd team list. He is still unsigned as of right now, but what a school will be getting is a raw prospect that rebounds exceptionally well. Excited to see where he lands in the coming months.
F – Trevor Baskin Trevor Baskin 6'8" | CG Pomona | 2020 State CO – Pomona
Baskin is one of the most skilled big guys in the entire state, and the scariest part is he is a guard. Baskin is a long and slender 6’8 prospect that can play multiple positions, and while Pomona did not have the type of year that they wanted, there was no denying that Baskin was one of the very best seniors in the state. Baskin took on full responsibility every game, and with all eyes on him and teams vying on slowing him down, he was a stat-stuffing machine. Baskin averaged 24.6 points and six assists a game while also grabbing 12.7 rebounds a game as well. He overcame double teams, got teammates involved, and scored at will. To think about what Baskin could be next year with a bit of weight on him is a scary thought. Colorado Mesa got themselves a gem as he will be making plays for the Mavericks for the next few years.
