Continue ReadingWith as much talent as there is within the 757 area (the 7 cities), it is very hard to give notice to all of the great players in the area on state teams, given the size and talent level of the state as a whole. Due to this conundrum, I have elected to put together a list of the talented 2020 hoopers from the 757 that have earned the right to be recognized for their production. This is the All-757 2020 First Team, which will be followed by two more teams in later posts. Please note that the awards are given based off of production, not just by position.
Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA – 6’3 CG/Norfolk Collegiate. Throughout his entire career, Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA has put up consistent eye popping stat lines. For his senior year, this was no different. Battle flirted with triple doubles on nearly every outing, while also leading his team to their best run in the playoffs in school history. Battle’s all around game earns him a definitive spot on the first team.
Justin Fatherly Justin Fatherly 6'4" | CG Nansemond River | 2020 State VA – 6’3 CG/Nansemond River. Fatherly remained the premier scoring senior throughout the 757 all year. Gifted with great physical gifts like length and bounce, Fatherly found himself posting multiple games of 30+ points while leading his team to victories. Despite the constant double teams, Fatherly more often then not found the bucket and put up the numbers. Stats do not lie for this senior.
Chaunce Jenkins Chaunce Jenkins 6'3" | SG Menchville | 2020 State VA – 6’4 Wing/Menchville. Whether through his highlight reel plays that have made it on ESPN, or with using his length on defense, Chaunce Jenkins Chaunce Jenkins 6'3" | SG Menchville | 2020 State VA was nothing short of a star this season. With his top tier athleticism, Chaunce and his game changing easily flew on to the first team list.
Jahn Hines Jahn Hines 6'4" | SF Norview | 2020 State VA – 6’3 Wing/Norview. Due to injuries, Jahn Hines Jahn Hines 6'4" | SF Norview | 2020 State VA found himself playing out of position this entire season. What did that mean? Well, a perfectly balanced stat line. Hines was a scoring threat inside and outside this year, making himself a danger to each opponent his team faced. With his balanced play, Hines earned his award of first team.
Kahlil Oden- 6’0 Point Guard/Indian River. The general consensus is that Kahlil Oden was a breakout star this season. A shifty point guard, Oden backed down from none this season, and put on shows against some of the best teams in the 757 consistently. Due to his scoring and leadership, Kahlil Oden dribbled his way to this award.
Tristan How Tristan How 6'3" | PF Norfolk Collegiate | 2021 VA – 6’7 Forward/Norfolk Collegiate. Tristan How Tristan How 6'3" | PF Norfolk Collegiate | 2021 VA was an absolute star this season alongside fellow All-757 guard Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA . With his height and quickness, How was either too quick for his bigger matchup, or too tall for his smaller matchup. Posing mismatches all season, Tristan How Tristan How 6'3" | PF Norfolk Collegiate | 2021 VA collected 10+ points, 10+ rebound marks routinely, and will now be collecting this honor.
Zyrail Mitchell Zyrail Mitchell 6'2" | PG Lake Taylor | 2020 State VA – 6’3 CG/Lake Taylor. Mitchell has been a star on Lake Taylor for multiple seasons now. With his length and handle, Mitchell proved to be a tough guard night in and night out. Possessing great size for the point position, Mitchell was consistent all season and shot his way to first team honors, balancing 30 point outings with great passes.
Azaiyah Roberts Azaiyah Roberts 6'5" | PF Princess Anne | 2020 State VA – 6’5 Forward/Princess Anne. Zai Roberts was one of the most bruising inside presences in the 757 this entire season. With his muscular frame, Zai was a consistent double double machine, bullying his way in the paint. Roberts boarded his way to first team this season, helping lead his team to a playoff run while remaining a constant threat down low.
Jamaal Madison Jamaal Madison 5'9" | PG Norview | 2020 State VA – 6’1 Point Guard/Norview. Jamaal Madison Jamaal Madison 5'9" | PG Norview | 2020 State VA was easily one of the most consistent point guards in the 757 this season. Quick and strong, Madison was a factor on both offense and defense this season, leading his team to a co championship. An excellent playmaker, Madison definitely earned first team honors with his tremendous play throughout the season.
Ray Bellamy- 6’5 Point Guard/Lakeland. Ray Bellamy was one of the hardest matchups for any team this entire season. At 6’5, Bellamy is about as tall as it gets at the point position. On top of his size, Bellamy used his length and sneaky athleticism to remain a consistent factor on offense and defense. Bellamy was also able to couple his individual success with team success, as Lakeland received co champion honors. Bellamy easily slashed his way to first team honors this season.
