After evaluating talent throughout the H.S season, there are several players that I’ll be watching closely. In this article, PH takes a look at some players returning to action after sitting out the high school season.
Amar Smith 5’11 PG Nevada H2G 2021 – Smith sat out the Varsity season for Legacy after transferring from Democracy Prep. Good slasher with excellent paint touch ability. He can play the 1 or 2 and defend both backcourt spots. The 17U squad for H2G is loaded, expect Smith to really get a chance to showcase his playmaking ability this summer.
Aaron Price Aaron Price 6'7" | PF Liberty | 2022 State NV 6’5 PF Vegas Elite 2022 (#13PHN 2022) – Big time run and jump athlete. Had he played for Liberty, we might be talking about a state champion. Excited to see Price with this year’s version of Vegas Elite. Last I saw him, he was mostly a low post and transition finisher. It will be interesting to see how his game has evolved with the time off.
Chancelor Johnson Chancelor Johnson 6'3" | SG Desert Pines | 2020 GA 6’2 SG Undecided 2021 (#20PHN 2021) (featured image) – Last anyone saw CJ he was putting up 16 per game as a sophomore at Democracy Prep. He had to sit out at DP this year over transfer rules, but he is the real deal. The 6’2 sniper has added a little muscle to his frame and can do more than just shoot the ball. I’m not 100% sure who he is playing for this Spring, but whoever gets him will be getting a gem.
Shane Thomas Shane Thomas 6'3" | SG Durango | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Las Vegas Knicks 2022 (#12PHN 2022) – The buzz on Thomas should continue to grow throughout the Spring. He missed the majority of the season at Centennial, however, he looks poised to make a major impact. The lefty shooter has shown new quick twitch muscles and explosiveness that was not seen last season. I’m extremely eager to watch him compete this Spring.
Craig Comanche Craig Comanche 6'1" | CG Cheyenne | 2021 State NV 6’1 PG Centennial 2021 (#33PHN 2021) – I’ll say one thing. Centennial is a completely different team if Thomas and Comanche are playing. Comanche is a good two-way player, that excels at playing the passing lanes and finishing in transition. Talented player whose maturity has been questioned at times on the court, however no one questions his ability on it.
