Junior Guard Javonte Waverly Javonte Waverly 6'3" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC – Henderson Collegiate
Javonte Waverly Javonte Waverly 6'3" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC had a breakout game against North Edgecombe to lift Henderson Collegiate to a victory. Waverly led the way for Henderson Collegiate with 27 points and 11 rebounds, playing a key part in their 24-10 outburst in the third quarter that ultimately decided things in the end. He’s a junior prospect that continues to improve by the game and is one win away from winning a 1A State crown.
Junior Guard JaQuaveon Venable – Henderson Collegiate
JaQuaveon Venable was impressive in the backcourt for the Pride. Venable is a junior prospect is slowly figuring out how to make an impact on the floor, especially on the glass. He finished with 11 rebounds (3 offensive) to go along with 10 points and four assists. He’ll be a prospect to keep an eye on in next week’s final.
Senior Guard Kalib Matthews Kalib Matthews 6'4" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2020 State NC – Henderson Collegiate
Kalib Matthews Kalib Matthews 6'4" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2020 State NC is figuring out how to fill his role, even when he’s not scoring. He took a bit of a backseat scoring-wise with Waverly on a tear, but he still managed to finish with nine points, eight assists and 12 rebounds, filling up the stat sheet in other ways. He’s a do-it-all guard that should be a solid matchup against Winston-Salem Prep in the 1A State Final.
Junior Wing/Forward Akhiris Holden Akhiris Holden 6'5" | SF Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC – Henderson Collegiate
Akhiris Holden Akhiris Holden 6'5" | SF Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC is a lefty wing prospect that’s turning into a matchup problem on the hardwood. Holden flew around on both ends, making his impact felt with 16 rebounds (7 offensive) and three blocks in the paint. He’s another junior in the Pride’s rotation that’s starting to figure things out on the court.
Sophomore Wing Amarion McCrae – North Edgecombe
Amarion McCrae stepped up big for the Warriors despite the loss. McCrae was a key reason the Warriors were in the game with his ability to knock down shots around the floor. He finished with three 3-pointers to go along with 17 points and four rebounds despite the result. He’ll be a prospect to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
Senior Guard/Wing Marvin Tucker – North Edgecombe
Marvin Tucker is an unsigned senior prospect with tons of versatility. Tucker was an explosive prospect for North Edgecombe with his ability to attack the paint and finish with authority. He had a few big dunks to keep the crowd in it, but down the stretch they couldn’t keep the Pride off the boards.
Senior Guard I’Jheaur Sharpe – North Edgecombe
I’Jheaur Sharpe was a solid floor general for North Edgecombe, despite the result. He put up six points, six assists and four rebounds. Sharpe did his best to make plays in the backcourt and keep his teammates engaged but they missed some tough shots in the paint that eventually doomed them. He’s an unselfish guard prospect with tons of potential as a floor general.
