I’ve had the luxury of seeing a ton of dynamic playmakers this season with a knack for getting their teammates involved on the offensive end, and I wanted to shed some light on these unsung heroes.
With that in mind, here are five of the best passers I saw this past season in the Dallas-Fort Worth area:
Logan McLaughlin Logan McLaughlin 6'1" | PG Hebron | 2020 State #462 Nation TX – 2020 6’2 Point Guard (3D Empire) Hebron HS – The Abilene Christian commit is deceptively athletic and can certainly score it himself, but McLaughlin’s vision and ability to find open teammates is what sets him apart. He loves to throw the ball upcourt to start the break and has no issue flinging accurate passes to uncovered shooters.
Kylin Green Kylin Green 6'0" | PG Lewisville | 2021 State TX – 2021 6’0 Point Guard Lewisville HS – Green is a pass-first point guard with tremendous facilitating instincts in the half court. He can make every pass in the book. He can throw alley-opp lobs, no-look passes to shooters on the perimeter, or lasers to cutting wings, all with great accuracy. The 2021 guard is surrounded by talented scorers, making him the perfect floor general for his team. His quickness as a ball handler is exceptional as well.
Nate Dominick Nate Dominick 6'5" | SF John Paul II | 2020 State TX – 2020 6’5 Small Forward (Marcus Smart YGC36 (Adidas)) John Paul II HS – Dominick did it all for the Cardinals this season, but his skill as a passer always stood out to me. He is a high IQ player with an unselfish attitude. The Claremont McKenna commit never hesitates when it comes to making the extra pass, which is an attribute that should never be undervalued. He was a big part of JPII’s championship run this season.
Cason Wallace Cason Wallace 6'4" | CG Richardson | 2022 State #6 Nation TX – 2022 6’3 Shooting Guard Richardson HS – Wallace is another terrific all-around prospect whose passing ability takes his game over the top. He is Richardson’s primary ball handler and always knows where to go with the basketball. His aptitude to make the right play at the right time is extremely apparent. The 2022 guard is the definition of a playmaker. I can’t wait to see him continue to develop over the remainder of his high school career.
Drew Steffe Drew Steffe 6'6" | PG Frisco Memorial | 2023 State #122 Nation TX – 2023 6’3 Combo Guard Frisco Memorial HS – Steffe was spectacular during his freshman campaign. He plays like a seasoned veteran despite being an underclassman. The 2023 prospect can score from all three levels and pass it with the best of them. His cross-court passing is next level. Additionally, he rarely forces bad passes and rarely commits turnovers. Steffe is going to be a stud for Memorial for the next three seasons.
