Continue ReadingSkill and IQ are obviously important aspects of a player’s game. However, there is no substitute for pure athletic ability on the court. Things like speed, quickness, bounce, and power can truly differentiate a good prospect from a special one. With that in mind, I wanted to highlight some of the most athletic individuals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Manny Obaseki Manny Obaseki 6'3" | SG John Paul II | 2021 State #47 Nation TX – 2021 6’4 Shooting Guard Allen HS – Obaseki verbally committed to Texas A&M early this week. He is a twitchy athlete and a versatile scorer. His explosiveness is next level. The junior guard can punch it home with the best of them as well as utilize acrobatics at the rim. Defenders tasked with guarding him are constantly on their heels. I can’t wait to watch him play for the Aggies after the completion of his high school career.
Jaylin Posey Jaylin Posey 6'3" | SG Grand Prairie | 2020 State #368 Nation TX – 2020 6’3 Shooting Guard (Texas Legions Elite) Grand Prairie HS – The Stephen F. Austin commit plays with an edge at all times. Posey is a physical guard who can use his burst to finish on the drive or bully smaller defenders in the post. He can also throw it down when he gets downhill in fast break scenarios.
Chase Ross Chase Ross 6'3" | SG Cushing Academy | 2021 State TX – 2021 6’5 Shooting Guard Plano West HS – Ross possesses excellent speed in the open court and loves to finish above the rim when he has the opportunity. The lack of size on his team makes him Plano West’s primary rebounder, which is another area where his leaping ability stands out. He is liable to go coast-to-coast whenever he pulls down a board.
Jalen Tot Jalen Tot 5'10" | PG John Paul II | 2020 State TX – 2020 5’11 Point Guard (Method Academy) John Paul II HS – Tot’s ability to change direction and maintain his speed as a ball handler is off the charts. This kid can fly. He was easily one of the fastest players with the ball in his hands that I saw play this season. It forces defenses to collapse when he gets into the paint and that allows him to show off his passing skills. He was a huge asset to the TAPPS 6A state champions this season.
Micah Peavy Micah Peavy 6'7" | SF Duncanville | 2020 State #58 Nation TX – 2020 6’7 Small Forward (Nike Pro Skills (EYBL)) Duncanville HS – Peavy is a slasher with tremendous body control and finishing capability. He is an elite athlete that doesn’t fool around on the perimeter, instead opting to get inside and torment opposing teams with his combination of size and athleticism. The Texas Tech commit is going to be able to immediately compete against all of the talented players in the Big 12 next season.
