The 4A State Tournament in the Tacoma Dome is a different animal: bigger court, open spaces behind the hoops, larger crowds, and loser-out pressure!
These players made the most of the moment and had stock rising performances.
Josh Lear | 6-3 Guard-2020-Sumner | The only game-winning shot of the day was a Lear three-pointer, deep in the corner with 12 seconds to go. All 18 of Lear’s points came from behind the three-point line but none was bigger than his final bucket. Lear hit several deep threes, flexed for the raucous crowd, and carried his Spartans into a quarterfinal matchup with undefeated Glacier Peak.
Jaylin-Wes Williams | 6-0 Point Guard-2020-Federal Way | 18 points, 3 three-pointers, one ferocious dunk attempt and that was just what Williams did on offense. Defensively this player is a one-man press- and a great one! He has cocky quickness. He knows he will beat his man to a spot and uses his quickness to get steals, take charges and disrupt the opponents, as well as any single player, possibly can.
Ethan Gahm Ethan Gahm 6'2" | PG Olympia | 2020 State WA | 6-3 Guard-2020-Olympia | Gahm saved his best shooting performance for the season’s biggest game. With the Auburn defense collapsing on 6-10 UW-committed, Jackson Grant Jackson Grant 6'10" | PF Olympia | 2021 State #78 Nation WA , Gahm made the most of his opportunities and scored 14 points going 4-5 from the three-point line. In this slow-paced, deliberate, and low scoring 48-43 victory for Olympia, each shot was huge and pressure-filled. Gahm rose to the occasion and hit all three of his second-half field goals.
Lamar Campbell | 6-1 Guard-2020-Sumner | Campbell had the ball on a string all night and used a variety of side steps, ball fakes, head nods, step throughs, reverse pivots, and up-and-unders to bewilder the Gonzaga Prep defense on his way to 22 points. The under-appreciated basketball player will be playing football in college next year.
Jace Chatman Jace Chatman 6'4" | SG Skyview | 2021 State WA | 6-4 Guard-2021-Skyview | Chatman was far from an unknown entering the tourney as a 2nd Team All-League player in the always tough GSL averaging 14.6 ppg. In this do or die situation, the smooth shooting wing went 6-8 from the field, knocked down 4 three-pointers and was a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line on his way to 22 points. His flawless shooting form is trustworthy and he proved to be a clever passer as well.
Jared Franklin Jared Franklin 6'5" | SF Federal Way | 2020 State WA | 6-5- Forward-2020-Federal Way | In the 78-57 victory over Battle Ground, Franklin had to try to contain the 6-9 dominating force that is Kaden Perry Kaden Perry 6'10" | C Battle Ground | 2021 State #16 Nation WA . Perry, a junior, has committed to Gonzaga. Perry did score 26 points but Franklin played bigger than his height and made Perry work for everything he got. On offense, Franklin scored 12 points- mostly inside by catching quick, interior passes. He hit one impressive reverse lay-in on Perry using the rim to shield his shot. Franklin rebounded out of his area by making second and third efforts for the ball.
