With these, we want to highlight 3 players who are similar in class and position. Get some time to dive into some quick thoughts, stat breakdowns, and film. – 6’6 C 2022 – Tri-West (IN)
Stats: 11.4 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.7 bpg
Thoughts: Covey is a big, bruising post who can really score around the rim. At averaging nearly 2.0 blocks per game, he makes it tough for opponents to score near him. He is one of more physical players we have seen in his class. Most of his points will come from either posting up or cutting to the basket. One of his best skills is his ability to catch almost any pass that is thrown to him. Super strong already for his age as well. Even though his footwork is solid, one area improvement will be for him to be a little more creative on his offense. Keep an eye on Covey for the next couple of years because he is the type of player that should take his game to the next level.

Stats: N/A
Thoughts: Penrod is long and athletic big man. Does a solid job with locating the ball on both offense and defense. His excellent rebounding allows him to get a ton of second chance points for his team. Love how good he is at using both his right and left hand for his hook shot as he does not seem to be competently dominate with one or the other. Not afraid to get physical and hustle for the ball or take a charge, which is great to see out of a big man like him. He does an ok job in his creativity on offense but needs to work on his speed to complement that. We think he has a some good upside but once he gets quicker he should start getting some looks from colleges.

– 6’8 C 2022 – Lake Central (IN)
Stats: N/A
Thoughts: Mahoney is a big post player with good height who uses his frame as a big weapon. Has also has done a real good job in trimming his weight down since his freshman year. Even though he may not look like he does, he actually moves really well and he has great lateral quickness. Has real good court vision for a big man and does a great job in finding the open man if he does not have anything down low. Most of, if not all, of his points come from posting up and he has a good left-handed hook shot. Would like to see him develop a 15ft jumper just so his offensive skill-set can a expand a bit more. If he continues to work on his body and improve his game, he has a chance to be a dominant big by his senior year.
