There was plenty of movement, both up and down, sparked by individual and team performances, along with a couple of high profile transfers in and out of the area as well as a top-ranked player reclassifying from the junior to senior class. Below are some of the prospects who raised their stock and shot up the rankings this season.
Andre Henry Andre Henry 6'4" | CG St. Francis | 2020 State #384 Nation CA-S , St. Francis
The UC Irvine-bound guard led his team to an appearance in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA championship game and has the Golden Knights vying for a Division II state title by doing a little bit of everything on the floor. Henry can serve as a primary ball handler and initiator of offense, but the 6-foot-4 senior doubles as the team’s top scorer and decision-maker when the game is on the line. Some may question why Henry jumped from the late 20’s to No. 12, but there are few high school players in Southern California who were more important to their team’s success than Henry is to St. Francis.
Boubacar Coulibaly Boubacar Coulibaly 6'10" | C San Gabriel Academy | 2020 State CA-S , San Gabriel Academy
The 6-foot-10 center checks in at No. 13 after being in the mid-to-late 20’s in our last update. The reason for Coulibaly’s huge jump was how he embraced his role as a rim protector. The unsigned senior used his length and quick leaping ability to swat shots and grab defensive boards at a high rate this season while helping the Eagles to 22 wins. Coulibaly was impressive offensively as a rim-runner and transition finisher as high motor helped him beat his defender down the floor and his improved hands allowed him to catch and finish in tight areas.
Brandon Angel Brandon Angel 6'8" | SF Torrey Pines | 2020 State #192 Nation CA-S , Torrey Pines
Angel moved into the Top 10 (No. 9) after sitting at No. 19 in our last update. The 6-foot-8 forward is one of the highest upside players in the class and started to show why this season by uncovering some more layers of his offensive repertoire. Angel has been known as a lethal catch-and-shoot threat from 3-point range for the majority of his high school career, but as his role changed with the Falcons so did his game. The Stanford-bound senior began to show his off-the-bounce ability with two-dribble pull-ups and drives, reverse pivots and finishes in the paint. Angel’s vertical athleticism started to pop a but more, as well, allowing him to finish better through and over contact on the break.
Jadon Jones Jadon Jones 6'4" | SF St. Anthony | 2020 State CA-S , St. Anthony
Jones made one of the most dramatic moves of this update, rising from No. 32 to No. 11. The 6-foot-4 wing flew up our rankings because of the improved consistency of his 3-point shot. Jones knocked down deep jumpers both off the catch and off the dribble at a solid clip, which opened up his driving and slashing game in the half-court setting. Jones’ scoring outbursts and versatility on the defensive end helped St. Anthony win 26 games and earn a berth in the CIF Southern Section Open Division field, which features the eight best teams in the section.
Paris Dawson Paris Dawson 6'1" | PG Corona Centennial | 2020 State #356 Nation CA-S , Corona Centennial
Dawson checks in at No. 16 after sitting in the mid-20’s in our last update. The 6-foot point guard had an impressive all-around season both from a statistical standpoint and a leadership one. The Portland State-bound senior embraced his captain role after three returning starters transferred out and Dawson led Centennial to a 27-5 record and an appearance in the Southern Section Open Division field. Dawson was one of the top three point shooters in the section and is most certainly one of its best on-ball defenders.
