“It feels great to win this award,” Johnson noted with gratitude.
Johnson’s best performance came in a 26-point outing against Putnam City, when he also notched six steals, five assists, three blocks and a couple rebounds.
“I just wanted to stay aggressive [against P.C.],” Johnson said, “and do what I had to do for my team to win and that was me putting ball in the hoop.”
Though his varsity debut came in 2020, the grassroots community has been privy to Johnson’s high ceiling of play for years thanks to his outstanding showcases with Team Griffin (EYBL).
“I’ve been waiting to see how Jeremiah would pan out for a couple years, since I first saw him two summers ago with Team Griffin,” Prep Hoops senior writer Bryce McKinnis said, “he exceeded my expectations this season.”
Johnson’s father, Jeremy, an assistant at P.C. North, said that Jeremiah will participate with Bradley Beal Elite (EYBL) this summer.
“It felt great finally getting to play high school ball,” Jeremiah said. “I think playing for [Team] Griffin helped a lot especially playing up a class last year.
“It got me ready for high school before high school even started.”
Jeremiah said that he still has improvements to make in his game, however.
“The areas I want to really improve are my strength and speed,” Johnson said, “I also need to get my on-ball defense better and play with a little more pace.”
Jeremiah also said he hopes his talent and work ethic will earn him a Division-I scholarship in 2023.
