The evening finished with the Senior Showcase Game, featuring 24 of the top players in Las Vegas. and two fan favorites. The fan favorites were selected in two separate twitter polls. The H.S Basketball Community flocked to American Prep Academy last night, to celebrate the careers of some of the best players in the city. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the highlights from the event.
3 – Point Champion: Noah Taitz Noah Taitz 6'3" | SG Bishop Gorman | 2020 State #100 Nation NV 6’3 SG Bishop Gorman (#5) – Bittersweet watching Taitz win the 3 point contest. He missed most of the season with a nagging injury, and I think we all missed out on a dude that would have dominated this year. Knockdown shooter that took home the trophy with a scintillating final round performance. He will be headed to Stanford next season.
Dunk Contest Champion: John Jenkins John Jenkins 6'7" | PF American Prep | 2020 State NV 6’7 SF American Prep (#58) – Jenkins bested some of the top high flyers in the city. A lean, 6’7 agile athlete, Jenkins put it all together in the contest. He nailed a perfect score when he threw the lob to himself behind the back and finished by hammering home a two-handed 180 dunk. (you can check it out here).
Game MVP: Donavan Yap Donavan Yap 6'3" | SG Arbor View | 2020 State #229 Nation NV 6’3 SG Arbor View (#4) – I can’t wait to watch the Rebels next season! The combination of Nick Blake and Donavan Yap Donavan Yap 6'3" | SG Arbor View | 2020 State #229 Nation NV is going to be must-watch basketball. Yap was pulling from all over the court in the game, just playing around with his range. He made most of them and made it look easy. The electrifying scoring guard is a big get for the hometown Rebels.
PrepHoops Nevada High Academic Award Winner: Luis Avila 6’8 SF SECTA (#47) (featured image courtesy of works.DNA) – Avila is an intriguing prospect that highlights all the qualities you look for in a diamond in the rough. The rangy forward finished around the rim and knocked down a few 3’s. Despite not originally being selected for the game, he showed he belonged. He will be continuing his career at the College of Southern Nevada next season.
Unable to Attend:– Mwani Wilkinson Mwani Wilkinson 6'5" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2020 State #107 Nation NV 6’6 Bishop Gorman SF 2020 (#3) – Unfortunately Wilkinson was unable to attend because of an illness. We wish him a speedy recovery and much success in the future. He will be continuing his career at LSU next season.
