Because it’s the playoff there’s extra incentive for some prospects knowing this could be the last game of their high school careers. Here’s my list of prospect who I thought performed well in the playoff atmosphere.
Jai Deshpande 6’4 2020 SG from Sacred Heart Prep. He has put together a solid season leading his team in scoring with 14 points per game, and overall record of 21-4. He’s a long rangy type player who uses long strides to get to the basket. Deshpande doesn’t force shots, they usually come within the flow of the offense. He can shoot it from 3 when the opportunity presents itself.
Charlie Selna 6’7 2020 forward Sacred Heart Prep. This prospect showed some solid footwork around the basket, using a jump hook with a high release point making it difficult to block. He has a consistent turnaround jumper in the key. He’s a heady player that uses skill over athleticism. He scored on pick-n-roles, up and unders. He puts the ball high off the backboard. He scored 12 pts, with 7 rebs.
Jalen Zeno 6’2 guard 2020 Mountain House. He’s a good finisher in transition, he’s strong and can withstand any contact on his way to the basket. He’s got a quick first step on the wing, and he’s a good rebounding guard. He had 14 pts, 7rebs.
David Gomez 5’10 guard 2020 Mountain House. Another guard who excels in the open court, he’s quicker than Zeno and is fearless going up. He got the whole community of Mountain House excited when he got a dunk in transition. He finished with 11 pts.
Dalton Greenwood 6’0 2020 SG El Capitan. He did everything he could do to keep his team alive in this game. He’s an active player who has the green light to shoot on this team. He had 20 pts, on creative drives to the basket, and corner 3’s. His activity on defense led to a few easy buckets for teammates. He was the top scorer in this game.
Josh Kendra 6’1 2021 guard Pioneer. Kendra plays with energy on both ends of the court. He’s a hard driver to the basket. He has a decent mid-range shot, and he’s always working to fill the lanes in transition. He can defend, he makes whoever he’s guarding work for buckets. In his last game he scored 13 pts.
Justice Owens 5’9 2021 Point guard. He has good court vision, he can handle being pressured. He makes long passes up the court in transition. He’s improved his dribble drive penetration, absorbing contact and finishing. He’s a player who can get hot from 3 point land. He scored 13 pts
Isaiah Frazier 6’0 2021 guard Wilcox. This prospect loves contact, he looks for it on his dribble drive penetration. He’s strong and uses spin moves effective after contact in the paint. With his strength, he doesn’t mind mixing it up working for rebounds. He had 14 pts, and 6 rebs to help his team move on. A good rebounding guard.
Nikko Rodriguez 6’4 guard. Mountain House. In this game he did whatever was needed. He capable of playing multiple positions for this team. He played a little point guard. He was on the wings driving, and he worked his way around the post area. He was most effective inside keeping balls live, and driving from the elbow with spin moves to the basket. He’s a solid body who did most of his scoring inside on putbacks, ang going up strong. He finished the game with 18 pts, 7 rebs.
Sean Crowley 6’4 2022 forward Pioneer. Crowley will have to develop his skill set, but being in the class of 2022 he has an understanding of what the team needs from him. He’s active going for rebounds, he works hard defending the other teams big guys. He’s a good high post passer and sets good screens. He had 6 pts, 8 rebs.
Aidan Braccia 6’1 2022 combo guard Sacred Heart Prep. A real competitive player who can hit deep 3’s and make tough mid-range jumpers on the baseline. He’s a good on ball defender with quick hands. He had two deep 3’s, and two tough mid-range jumpers with hands in his face. He scored 10 pts.
Brody Collins 6’1 2023 guard El Capitan. He’ll be a 4 year starter at this small division 3 school in Merced CA. He’s a shifty ball handler who really wanted to drive to the basket every time he got it. Being a freshman at this time of year, he showed confidence and maturity, using pump fakes, and jab steps to go by defenders. He finished with 10 pts, 5 rebs.
