WIAC Prioritizing Gunnink
One of the top Division 3 prospects in the state, Laconia 2020 guard Reed Gunnink is the center of a heated recruiting battle.
According to his program, UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville, and UW-Oshkosh are routinely watching Gunnink at his games this season. The 6-foot-4 guard previously received a scholarship offer from Division 2 Minnesota-Crookston.
Gunnink is averaging 17.2 points per game as a senior. Laconia is currently 11-7 overall and has won nine of their last 12 games.
Resch Has Two Visits Lined Up
Sussex Hamilton 2021 guard Tanner Resch will visit two Division 2 programs this month.
On Saturday, Resch will head to Minnesota-Duluth. He also a trip lined up to Hillsdale on Feb. 22. Resch is currently hearing from Miami (OH), Winona State, Southern Connecticut, UW-Parkside, Barry, and Flagler.
One of the state’s top shooters, Resch (5-11) is currently averaging 14.9 points and 3.6 assists per game for the Chargers, who rank No. 3 in the Divisio 1 rankings and have a record of 16-2 overall.
Nelson Hearing From D1 Programs
Appleton North 2022 forward Maximus Nelson visited Wisconsin on Feb. 1. That marked his second trip to see the Badgers thus far.
Nelson said Stanford, Marquette, Belmont, and UW-Green Bay are other programs that have expressed interest early on in his recruitment.
“I will be considering best fit. I am a student athlete so I need to consider the academic program,” he said. “I am part of team, so I will be looking for a program that stresses relationships that focus on everyone as a valuable person. I also want a program that will continue to develop me as a player as well as a person/leader. Lastly, I would like a program that will prepare me for life after college.”
A stretch forward, Nelson (6-8) is averaging 18.4 points per game as a sophomore.
D2’s Should Keep Tabs on Johnson
Elkhorn 2021 guard Jordan Johnson is going to be one of the biggest risers in our next rankings update. The explosive 6-foot-1 guard is putting up 23.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game for the 15-3 Elks.
Early on, Johnson has heard from Division 2 programs such as Bemidji State, Winona State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Clarke. Division 3’s UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have also reached out.
Look for Johnson’s name to be in the top 30 of the next installment of the class of 2021 rankings.
