Northwood Temple finished 3rd in their conference but seemed to be playing well at the right time, as they were rolling once the state tournament began. They would get the upset win over Trinity in the semi-finals and would follow that with a win over The Burlington School by three. Seniors Reggie Raynor & Jay Hickman were solid throughout the season but Sophomore Guard Jaquantae Harris really proved himself as one of the better guards in 2022 with some tremendous play late in the season.
The 2A Championship would go to Davidson Day as they put together a monster win over their opponent, winning by forty points. Senior Jackson Threadgill is a player that can plain and simply put the ball in the bucket and it showed in the state championship game. He went for 30 points overall with 21 of those points coming in the first half.
Concord First Assembly has played at a high level of all season long but seemed to kick it up a notch when the playoffs hit. They feature multiple players that will be playing on the next level and would use their combination of talent to win every game in the tournament by twenty points or more. Junior Guard Trae Benham has been the leader for the squad offensively this season as he averaged just under 20 points per game.
The Cannon School had one of the tougher roads to the Championship out of all the teams in the tournament. They knocked off Wesleyan Christian then followed that up with an upset of the #2 seed Greensboro Day School. They met Charlotte Latin in the championship game and pulled of the win by two points, 71-69. Sophomore Guard Jaden Bradley is a name you already know for sure as he has been dominate all year long and is a top prospect nationally. This matchup was no different as he led his team with 27 points to secure the championship.
