Ryan Schneider – Longmont
Longmont continues to rack out wins and the best part about them is they have been having different high scorers in different games. This time it was 6’2 combo-guard Ryan Schneider that led the way in Longmont’s blowout win. Schneider finished with 17 points as he was 5-7 from the field and that efficiency let his team get out to a quick and big lead. Was stands out about his game was the way that he scored. He finished with his points from getting to the rim and also working inside and with that came with FT’s. He scored seven of his 17 points from the charity stripe and also racked up three steals to cap off his big game.
Jalen Higgs – James Irwin
Junior forward that is averaging 15.4 points a game and is one of their go-to scorers. He had himself a good day and they made sure to ride the hot hand. Higgs finished with a season-high 23 points on the day. Higgs has felt it as of late and has been the player that the Jaguars are going through. He could be a bit more efficient but the confidence is there and that is what you want to see from a player that is giving his all out there. When he does make a mistake it comes from working extremely hard on both ends of the floor and that was seen when he had a career-high seven steals in the game and a couple of those ended with easy fast-break lay-ins. Big day for him and it helped with getting a blowout win.
Maliq Alford – Gateway
Alford makes another appearance to our Monday’s top scorers. He was the only Gateway player to score in double figures and his 17 points powered the Olympians through as they snuck by against Brighton. Alford attacked the paint and that led to him being fouled where he went 7-8 from the charity stripe and closed Brighton out. Gateway made sure to keep the ball in his hands and let him make decisions and it led to him having a big day and securing the win. He is a player that is popping on our radars and hopefully he is around this summer for us to take another look at him.
Greysen Carter – Fairview
Fairview has been one of the top teams in the state this season as they are off to an 18-3 win on the year but Monday night’s win was their best one of the season as it gave them the 5A Front Range title. Fairview has been a balanced team that can buckle down defensively when they need to and their ability to change things up makes them a difficult team to prepare for. They are led by Junior wing Greysen Carter who has been having a great season and he had another great game when it mattered most. Carter put together a game where he finished with 23 points on 10-12 shooting from the field. He got himself going from the outside, he got mismatches on the post and he also led the game in rebounds with 10. Carter continues to have a solid season and is turning plenty of heads in doing so.
Luke O’Brien – Columbine
Columbine keeps on rolling and they have one of the top players in the entire state and know how to get him the ball. O’Brien while he already had separated himself from the pack for the last three seasons seems to only keep getting better and polishing off his game. For a player to be 6’8 he sure can put the ball on the floor, space the floor with his outside jump shot and also get to the lane and finish with authority. All of that was on display as he finished with 24 points against Douglas County on Monday. He got into a rhythm and even had a few heat-check shots. What really stood out was his put-back baskets. O’Brien owned the boards in this game. He finished with 23 points in the game and had two put-back easy lays ins as well. He got the board and started the break and he was an overall standout in every aspect from a busy Monday night. Columbine will ride the momentum and continue to let their best player be just that – their best player.
Cole Bowen – Rampart
While Bowen did not have the biggest game, his impact won Rampart a very hard-fought battle as the junior guard remains a player whose stock is boosting. He finished with a team-high 15 points and the Rams made sure to ride him down the stretch to ensure the victory. He is a guard that can create for himself as well as teammates and he is a two-way player that leads by example. He averages 3.2 steals a game as a perimeter defender that has great timing and he was able to deflect a few passes as well as get his hand on the ball in this one as he got three steals including one late in the game that his team needed. Keep an eye on him.
