As you can tell by the score of 36-33, Friday night wasn’t exactly a shootout. In fact, both teams shot about 35%, and I’m sure there were a few people asking for a shot clock in the stands. However, even in a game like that, you can take positives away from it.
Lawrent Rice ( 7pts, 5 reb ) proved he is the best Freshman in the Dayton area and top 5 in the state. Obviously there is a lot of room for development and growth across the entire state for 2023 recruits, but I would love to watch a 1v1 game right now between Rayvon Griffith and Lawrent. Both have lengthy, athletic frames for their age and are both solid defenders. Lawrent has incredible handles, and as he develops into a better perimeter shooter, I would expect his stock to rise. He currently sits on an offer from Ohio University.
Malcolm Curry ( 5pts, 8ast, 4reb ) is a quick and crafty guard. The 2021, 6’1″ guard has the skillset to run a D2-D3 college offense. He rebounds, is creative, defends and can drive to the basket. He averages almost 12pts, 5ast, and 5reb. While he doesn’t offer the best perimeter shooting, his ability to drive and dish makes up for it.
Elijah Brown ( 11pts, 8reb ) had himself a game. Elijah is a pure athlete and will be a dual-sport star when it is all said and done. The 6’6″ 2022 forward will most likely be playing football in college as he already holds many high Division 1 offers.
While Centerville struggled, there was one standout who kept them in the game all night, and his name is Tom House. Tom is an incredible perimeter shooter. He went 5-8 from downtown with 15pts and 3ast. The 6’5″ 2022 SG has a lot of upside. He can defend at a high level anywhere on the court and is hard to guard on the perimeter with his size. Once he heats up, he is hard to stop. There is a lot of room for growth, and it will be interesting to see how he develops.
